Hi
I apologise - I realise that this question will have been asked before but I don’t know how far back to go in the posts here.
There was a reply to Dale, I think, which recommended cushions but could anyone recommend a suitable UK chair, with arms, for comfortable sitting pre and post THR?
I cannot sit comfortably in an ‘easy’ chair. I have found a chair on-line with homecarechairs but it has no reviews. I would like to manage without a riser/recliner if I can.
Thanks very much.
I ended up just using cushions on my usual chair after the operations.
Thanks Dale
I bought a super, expensive chair with recliner and a thing to help you stand up, in the end I use my comfy old easy chair with an extra cushion and leave the fancy chair for visitors! What chair do you use now?
Thanks ptolemy, I hope your visitors enjoy the chair!
I sit on an upright dining chair most of the time but if I am watching TV in the evenings I have to lie on a small sofa, usually with my knees up!
They haven’t actually commented, perhaps they feel the same about it as I do!!
I too was wondering about the best chair for post-surgery. I ended up buying a leather electric recliner at a national department store retailer which has very firm seat and back and is pretty level when you are seated in it, meaning your hips don’t sink much. We are still using the chair as it is very comfortable for watching TV (I am 3 months from surgery). I looked at the chairs that kind of “eject” you from a standing position and for myself I am very glad that I did not purchase one as they are quite expensive. I am a small person in weight and height if this helps your decision at all. Hope you enjoy your choice of seating. Happy recovery!
Two things to add…
I bought a chair with strong (wooden) arms which I could grip; this was great for helping me up and down.
At my pre-op check my knee height was measured (52 cm I seem to recall). I was told that I needed a chair of this height at least. That was good advice.

Thanks very much Joan, that’s very useful. The chair I am looking at on-line offers a choice of heights and 52cm is one of them.
Thank you very much Nancy. It’s good to know that you found one that is so useful. Did you find the chair comfortable before your surgery?
It works well if you can just slide your bum onto the seat rather than having to sit down lower.
Joan
Yes, my husband and I both used the chair before and after my surgery and it is a nice piece of furniture and very comfortable and attractive. I am glad I purchased it.
Thanks Nancy
