support bandage

Hi, has anyone got an opinion on those elastic support bandages???? Does anyone wear them when going out??? I have a funeral next week and will be stood for a while and just wondered if maybe this would give me added support??? Im 9 weeks post op. Thanks

I only had to wear them for 6 very long weeks check with your doctor just in case - it's a lovely feeling when they came off (apart from the dry skin eeuw)

thanks peg I never had anything but an elastoplast on my knee but I was wondering if it might support my knee better as il be stood around for a while??? il try ask advice from my GP but getting past his receptionist is murder lol

I have and FLA PRO-LITE 3D knee support that helps when my knee is hurting.  Sometimes I even wear it at night if my knee is bothering me to keep me from twisting it in my sleep. I think it helps.

oh that sounds good did you buy it online???

Hi Andrea I have bought and worn the support tights from M&S they really helped, nice thing is they look normal & anything that makes you feel or look  normal is good to me. I was told to wear the hospital ones for 6 weeks (but because I am still on the injections to thin blood and will be for another month ) I only wore hospital ones for a few weeks.

10 weeks post op TKR

hi loo thats a good idea I never thought of those! !!! the strange thing is I never wore those after my op and only took the blood thinning tabs for 10 days so it just proves how diff hosp deal with things?? thanks il have a look at those x

Yes I know they can be a nightmare - can you ask for a telephone appointment so that the doctor can call you back ?

yes peg il give it a try but someone on the forum suggested support tights!!! id never thought of those so gonna look into them as well lol

Hi Andrea,   My specialist told me to wear them day and night for three weeks.  Then just during the day for another week.   There seems to be a lot of different ideas about them but my specialist is one of the top in his field so I would trust his opinion.   Didn't your doc. Tell you?   If in doubt, you can always ring the hospital.

It really is surprising how different the hospitals /surgeons are regarding the after care. I only had the stocking on for 2 days and blood thinners for 3 days.

I've seen so many variations on that on here.

Suzi - 6 months TKR - no complications.

Mine rode up & stockings cut into skin so eventually tried the pants  same problem so finally  had nothing .I would take a portable  seat, rollator or mobility scooter to sit down.

No sue they dont use them in our hosp for that particular op??? il ring docs tom and see what they say???? Thanks x

Yeh sue but thats like the opinion on when to return to work????? My cons told me I will be off for5/6 months because of the risk of twisting your knee or tearing something inside yet some folks go back at 6 weeks???? I dont know how they do that? ?

yeh thanks julie I think im going to try the support tights as suggested???? and im going to ask for a seat lol

Hi Andrea, At hospital post op for 3 days I was made to wear a support stockings that blows up and deflates day and night. As soon as I was up and hobbling about I didn't have to wear them as risk of DVT was diminshed. However when I started serious physio ( the one where you want to punch the physiotherapist) he gave me a tublular compression stocking to wear when walking and exercising to restrict the swelling. He also said do not wear it when you are sitting about with my leg elevated and definitely not to wear it in bed at night. I continued wearing it for about 10 to 12 weeks at which time the surgeon said I would no longer need it.  Regards Paul

oh thanks paul thats a help!!! yes I think I might just pop one on unless I wear a skirt then il go for the support tights lol
