Hi, I'm new to this forum and talking to people concerning my heart problems but, hell, I thought I'd give it a go
A brief history I suppose. Massive heart attack at Heathrow just about to board the plane to Jamaica. Didn't quite ruin my holiday but did put a dampner on my white water rafting.
Anyway move on 7 years and bang! Went surfing this week and seems I can no longer paddle as much as I thought, a downward spiral for my surfing career I suppose lol.
Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum really and say it's been a hard 7 years but I still do all the things I love but just a lot more slowly and for not quite as long, but hey you only live once eh
hi and welcome.
it's not easy is it when you can't do the things that you used to do.
i'm sure that there are a lot of us here on the foum with all sorts of health conditions who are having to put up with the same type of situation.
but you are right, you only live once!
good luck
An airport or a sporting event is a good place to have a heart attack as there is always a lot of medical support there. Did you spend your holiday in Hillingdon Hospital?
Thanks, it hasn't really stopped me doing the things I love, I just have to take it easier now.
It's just a life adjustment
Don't know where that is? I actually caught my flight and spent the next two weeks in Jamaica thinking I had pneumonia lol
Hillingdon is the nearest hospital to Heathrow.
If it had been a massive heart attack you would not have survived the flight.
Funny that, that's what my cardiologist said when I returned home. Was also told recently that my cardiac team that they didn't expect me to be alive now , but here I am. Surprising what positive thinking and general stubbornness will achieve
Having read a lot of forums (before settling on this one) I have noticed that a lot of people who suffer from a sudden illness tend to spend a lot of time concentrating on what they can no longer do instead of the things they still can and, although getting sick is a crappy thing to happen, life still goes on, for them and their loved ones who in their own way have to learn to live with an illness.
I have suffered from serious illness for half my life now, starting with kidney disease and subsequent transplant, and now heart disease, and it has been hard, but on the flip side I learned to appreciate the good things in my life, my wife, my kids, my friends and I have also done more things that most people only dream about, swam with turtles, slept under the sky in a middle east desert, etc.,these things I have done because I have learned that life isn't forever and that everyday I should look for something good and beautiful. Getting sick it's horrible but I wouldn't be the person I am now and done the amazing things I've done if I hadn't gotten ill.
So just to let you know, keep fighting, never give up, have your bad days and shrug them off for the next good day, have fun and live all you can whilst you have time.
I'd make a fortune if I could lol. I just didn't know what was happening , as far as I was concerned it was just exhaustion and panic , never been one for going to hospital, people tend to get sick in them lol
It seems to happen to a lot of people on planes.
A friend has two mates who had chest pains before take off and were taken off the plane to hospital. After tests both were said to be OK but one has been back and forward to his doctor with chest pains since.
Wise words and so very true, best wishes to you.
