Surgery yesterday!

Well I finally had surgery yesterday, I went in for a arthroscopy and a lateral release. They found I had bad arthritis so cleaned that up a lot and they had to do an open lateral release.

I've had a terrible night with the pain, just been lying awake waiting for the time I can take my next lot of pain meds.

i don't think I expected it to be so bad, I literally have to lift my leg into bed as it seems all my muscles have stopped working.

I can only lay on my back and I've got a bad back today too!

My pain meds aren't really touching the pain, I hope it eases off abit soon as I feel totally drained 😥

Hi debbie

Have you told the nurses that the pains unbearable and the painkillers are not really helping as much as they could or are you home from hospital.

I understand how you feel i have not long had my 2 hios replaced and the day after l was rying so much l was hyperventilating with the pain it was unbearable they evenyually gave me a morphine shot.

Hope you feel better soon

I am just waiting to see what l need done with my knees as l have severe OA in both .

Im home from hospital Laura. I have been taking the meds on time as i havent wanted the pain to build up but its just unbearable right now. Ive got my leg elevated and icing regularly but its just not easing .

Poor you OA is a real bummer ive had it in my feet too and had joints fused , its one of those things because people cant see anything they dont understand the pain it causes x

Hi Debbie

Just a quick message to say that I had double arthroscopy about ten years ago as a day patient - and yes, boy, was it painful !!! Not helped by the tendency of people to assume it's not such a big deal, as you're home so soon Anyway I got pain relief from the GP and knowing what I know now, I would be booking a Physio session as soon as possible to get the joints moving - that's what's needed in the end.

Good luck. It'll get much better soon, I promise!

Hi Debbie I had my knee cleaned out back in 2007 have now had new knee. I used me dressing gown belt to lift my leg found this very helpful.

I hate to quote the old 80's song by that vanilla guy but...ICE, BABY, ICE!!!  I've had four scopings (two for each knee for femoral condyle and meniscus) before a LTKR.  Elevate and ice.  Everything was fine in a few days.  You will recover quickly.

Debbie, don't know why but knee surgery is sooooo damn painful, I had a hip replacement 8 years ago and it wasn't anything like as painful as my knee replacement which was 9 weeks back. The day after the knee I took every painkiller I could get my hands on, I was crying and my husband was so distressed to see me like that as I almost never cry.  In fact I cried every day for 3 weeks!  I wished I hadn't had it done. But here I am now and it's so much better.  I believe your op is one which you recover from quite quickly, so hang in there, let us know how you're doing, wishing you a swift recovery.
