SVT? Can anyone help?

Hi, for weeks I’ve had the same thing. At night I’m literally just dropping off nice and relaxed when my heart flutters and is followed immediately by a regular but fast heart rate that goes on sometimes for hours. I’m sure it’s not panic that’s causing this as I feel relaxed even when it happens but the GP says it’s all anxiety. I’m sure this is an SVT? Should I go back - again? Holter Meters never catch it and just show ectopics. It’s the flutter followed by fast heart rate that concerns me more than the odd ectopic. And thoughts greatly appreciated!

Dear alison88042,

Mine start out that way about 6mo ago then I started cold sweats, nausea and dizzy! Doctor did a cardiac ablation but 2 weeks after I started getting worse so thats when he put in my pacemaker! Such a big difference! Hope you find a solution!

It is how fast your heart is going that matters. If it is under 100 bpm it's fine. I get the same as you, usually if I have eaten a heavy meal or eaten late or even if I am a bit "windy"

you are always much more aware of your heart when lying down.

do you drink alcohol or caffeine in the evenings because this can cause it too.

Thanks Sarah. It’s probsbly around the 100/110bpm mark (usually 60 something at night). Does yours start with the flutter? This is definitely the ‘trigger’ for me?

Thanks for replying. I had an ablation procedure about 4 Year’s ago because I had similar issues but they couldn’t find anything during the procedure so just sent me on my way. I still think they missed something.

My starts with an ectopic beat and then goes into a regular but fast rhythmn . It sometimes happens after a meal too when I am sitting.

Thanks Sarah. That’s reassuring. Have you been diagnosed with an SVT? If so have you been given anything to help. I also get this after eating a large meal. And any tips on how to not let this bother you gratefully received!

Good morning Alison I had the same thing where my heart would skip a few beats and then going to a fast heartbeat so I wore a monitor because I do have atrial fib  and they wanted to see if that indeed what it was  and it showed SVT the doctor didn’t seem too concerned he said we only worry if it doesn’t slow down or get up in the high numbers so you have to trust what the doctor says I mean what other choice do you have?

Thanks Diana. Frustrating though when the doctor just says ‘your stressed’ and that’s it. Do you do anything to calm it down when this happens?

Mine carries on for a few hours after. Drives me mad as often when I’m trying to sleep.

mine is 90/70 with 66 after pacemaker before 115/59 43

Is that blood pressure or beats per minute.?

Eat small helpings and don't eat late. I can't eat and then rush about or bend down for a while or it sparks of my heart which can go into rapid beats or AF

I am on flecainode and rivaoxiban

Thanks Sarah. That’s exactly how I am but I’m so p’d off because my gp keeps saying it’s just anxiety and tell me to try to relax and calm down.

Sarah, sorry for pestering you but is the medication for the SVT or AF?

My friends think AF is just a panic attack so I don't discuss it  . I am  grateful for this forum and the discussions !

My meds are for AF. I have never been told I have SVTs

Thanks. So I’m guessing you have an irregular beat at times too? (Ie the AF) I bought a Kardia device ages ago and it’s never shown AF. I agree forums like this are the only way I can make some sense of what’s going on!

Good luck Alison and remember SVTs aren't dangerous!
