Hi I'm a 46 yr old female breast cancer survivor, was diagnosed back in 2003 & had all the normal treatments to stay alive. One of those treatments was 6 doses of A/C chemo which I was told "could" give me depression! To start with I was doing great but then BANG out of the blue IT hit me like a ton of bricks! Depression along with terrible anxiety too! As a kid I was always quite shy but & have never been good with certain situations when alone where there is crowds etc. I had been on citalopram for the past 7 yrs but they stopped working. Now I'm on sertraline. Want to hear about any technics I can do home to help with anxiety.
Breathing exercises, Meditation, hobbies, positive thoughts, and lowering stress. Try not to think "what if". Call a friend and talk about other things. Go for a walk. See a therapist. Walking relieves stress, depression, and anxiety. Hope this helps some, but a therapist can give you tools that will help.
Thanks for replying so quickly. I've been offered talking therapy but am confused whether this is the same as cognitive behaviour therapy or is it something different?
I am not sure I know what talking therapy is. Over the phone. I have had phone sessions when I was not able to leave my house. As long as they are giving you positive ways of coping, it will help. I assume the panic attacks are due to the health issues? Totally understandable. Just remember you are not alone. I am new to this site, but it sure does help to see others who feel the way I do. To know I am not a loon. And to see the same symptoms that we think the worst of. CBT is a good way to go. It makes you change your way of thinking. From negative to positive. There are books that help you do this also. Read in between visits with the therapist, and do your homework. You can get through this!!! Best wishes
