I’m 7 weeks post op anterior. I still have swelling below the incision and to the side on the thigh. I’ve helps it go down, not totally, but if I’m walking around or doing stretches it swells up again. Makes my leg feel pretty heavy. I mentioned the swelling on the side of my thigh to surgeon at my first post op appt which was at 3 weeks. He said possibly some bleeding after surgery and will go away. It’s been another 4 weeks and still swollen. Up in the incision area it looks good.
Is this what they call a hematoma? How is it relieved (ice/heat)? And how long until it goes away?
Are you having drainage? I have had a left THR 2 years ago and at 7 weeks I was fine and no swelling and off pain medication, however this October I had
A Right THR and at 2 weeks was doing good but started noticing my incision area was swollen and warm to the touch, my home health nurse was worried so I called the doctor, at first they tried to tell me it was normal but I was in so much pain they fit me in, cause my nurse said she was going to send me to the ER,, turns out doc stuck a surenge in and pulled back a unbelievable amount of puss and sent me straight to the hospital for another surgery, the infection was staph and I had a revision surgery and sent home on IV antibiotics
The infection still wasn’t going away so had to have the second hip removed and spacer placed and am awaiting 4th surgery for new hip,,don’t take any chances,, if your doctor don’t fit you in and lay hands on your hip then if you feel something is wrong,go to ER where you had the surgery,, it could be blood clot or infection,, did they put you on a blood thinner? I’m on aspirin 325mg,,
Hope you feel better and it’s not either of those problems.
Hi Joyce, yes I was on blood thinners. No drainage.
Oh wow you have been through a lot. I see my regular doctor on Friday maybe he may know something. I hope it’s nothing serious.
At my second post op I also mentioned the swelling to another doctor, my surgeons colleague. My surgeon retired after my first post op appt. He said swelling was normal. But then he also hurried up the appt, I’m sure because I wasn’t his patient.
Thank you I will watch the swelling more carefully
