Swelling in left thigh after anterior THR

12 days post op...

Much more swelling than couple of days ago. Is this my new normal?

I  had Anterior LHR a lttle over 3 months ago.  I lived with ice on my upper thigh for 2-3 weeks.  I never gave it a chance to swell.  Keep it iced, you’ll be fine.  Walk as much as you can!  It gets better....

Normal, no.  Is there any discharge?  Have a fever? More redness than normal?  If so, see your doc.  If not, probably a reaction to the healing process.

Thank you for the reply. I'm keeping ice pack on it whenever I'm sitting our lying down.

Did you use any compression socks?

Thank you for your comment.

No discharge, fever, no redness. Doesn't hurt.

I thought it could be reaction to the manipulation of my leg during the surgery. I do use ice pack.

I think it’s probably normal, unless the scar area is hot/ red/ angry looking. I had loads of swelling on my leg, and I’m normally slim. It used to increase as the day went on, and then by the next day it had gone down again. I used to elevate my leg and put a cold pack on it. Think it was ok by week 4, but can’t really remember. Get it checked out if you’re concerned.

I’m 11 wks post op and still dealing with swelling. Moreso after I do stretching. As long as the incision area isn’t red or hot to the touch. Good luck on your recovery. 😁

No issue with the incision area. Definitely increased throughout the day. I'm using the ice pack and elevating often when I sit. Also, lying down later in afternoon/early afternoon with ice pack.

I'm going to call doctor about a couple of questions so will ask about this, too.

I had no idea it could last that long, but good to know other people have similar situation. If I do too much walking (never knew there could be too much), then my thigh and knee will swell more. I have to realize it all takes time. Today is 2 weeks since surgery.

Thank you for your comments.

Yes, I was worried myself and told doctor. He just said as long as no redness and he wanted to take the slow approach. I’m finally seeing less swelling, just a tad but I can tell.

We all recover differently plus one hip is different from another. I had the other hip done a year ago same surgeon, same approach and I was back to work in 6 weeks.

It helps read that others have had similar experiences.

Since all new to me, each change can be concern.

Was a psychologist in the US.  Catharsis comes from knowing that others have experienced what you have, Be it mental or physical.

Happy to have come across forum.
