It's horrible isn't it? But try not to worry.I started swelling after day 3 and as a slim thing was horrified. It was SO enormous and It was so HEAVY! But it's all normal. If it get really hot suddenly or really hard call doc though.I could hardly move my knee and it worried me but trust me it will get better v quickly. The more you move and wriggle you're toes the better.Good luck and much love.Jo.xxx
Hi Vet, i had my surgery on June 9, have gone from hurting like crazy, to almost no pain. Now I have scar tissue building up around the incision area, and it really hurts. Still walking with a cane. I am aged 74, so i think it might take a little longer to heal than a young active person. I can definitely relate to your situation. Do you have any therapy workouts you can do at home on your own. If you do, I recommend you keep doing them. That and ice is what i have been doing
dear vettech,
the roller coaster ride has started - first the euphoria that the terrible OA pain is gone, followed by weird niggles and pains etc ..
You will find that most of us had this swelling and were really concerned/upset about it - After my 1st THR swelling started 4 days post-op, starting from hip, going down thigh, knee, calve and ankle - finally disappeared at around week 2 -
Looked like ano verstuffed sausage, an alien appendix -
You just had major invasive surgery where your hip joint, leg were forcefully manipulated to dislocate the joint - cavities were the prepared to receive hardware that was jammed in, taken out and jammed in again to make it fit - same with stem in femur ... so there you have it - no pussy-footing here ...
when I was in theatre for 2nd THR I asked surgeon to handle me with care ... I guess he did because I hardly had any swelling ...
keep doing foot pumps and ankle rotations -
continue to be gentle with your self

hi connie,
try massaging around the scar to break up scar tissue - I had that too and it really does hurt .. I ended up having PT massage it and it really helped --
How are you getting on otherwise >
