TKR on 16/6/17. Mobility progressing well with physio but still fair bit of pain. This week saw GP who was concerned about swelling in lower part of operated leg. Ultra sound scan excluded clot but has anyone else had problem with swelling - no redness or pain in calf just feels firm and swollen -scan showed fluid in tissues.
Hi Mary, my pain is below the knee joint, I feel as it the bone is bruised, no swelling though, although it does feel very slightly numb on the outside of the knee, (this is where the pain starts!!) but when I saw my surgeon after six weeks post op he said the nerves can take months to heal, luckily my first knee op was fine, not so much the second!! Hope your GP can sort out your pain.
I've had swelling of all the surgical leg at times, I'm prone to swollen ankles anyway but I still get swelling at week 22 and some tightness and pain continuing, but x rays etc., look OK and no redness or heat.
If it is not a DVT, then they say it can take months to completely resolve. It can be a sign you are overworking the knee exercise, or underdoing the ice and elevation? Keep an eye on it and go back if anything worsens or changes. Chances are it is part of your healing process, best of luck.
