Swelling vs lymphedema ๐Ÿ˜–

hi hipsters๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป, I'm new here and i to have had a total R hip replacement 8 weeks ago via the anterior bikini cut... was wondering if anyone has experienced lymphedema in the thigh after surgery??

hi prnsseve,

warm welcome to the hippies forum -

Is your thigh still swollen?  who diagnosed lympedema?

you probably had your follow up appointment with your surgeon already, right?

did you mention it then?

is it painful and red ?

love to hear a bit more about you and how you are doing otherwise?

big warm hug

renee

I've had no experience with this. I googled can you get lymphedema after a total hip replacement? and got some good info, including several threads about it on this and another forum.

hi Renee, thnx for the warm welcome..

my thigh definitely appears to be swollen still. my gp, who's been following me since the start of my severe osteo diagnosis, was the one that said my swelling was lymphedema BUT at my six week checkup with the surgeons PA, she was surprised that my thigh was swollen & altho she didn't come out & say it was lymphedema she did recommend wearing compression shorts which is wuts recommended for that diagnosis ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข

my thigh was not red but very painful to the touch... since starting therapy & thigh manipulation massages a week ago it's gotten allot better., still a lil swollen but not painful like before. it's been so frustrating๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–

hi AnnieK, thnx for responding! i too googled but didn't word it that way, i will google it again & see what comes up.. thnx again!!

Another thing, if you are only 8 weeks out, you could still be having normal swelling. The fix for that is rest (really take it easy, sitting down with feet up most of the time), elevate and ice often. You could try that for a week and see if the swelling goes down.

thnk u AnneK.. ice def seams to help!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
