Went to my first post op visit Friday and PA said everything looked great. My pain level is low to non existent and I have good bend and decent straightening. Then the doc comes in and is unhappy with the swelling in the knee!! I am icing several times per day and keeping it elevated. Amy I other suggestion to get that swelling down?
I'd follow the doc's advice. Swelling is completely normal but if he thinks it's too much then HE has to manage that situation. Work closely with him. You can ice and elevate and stay off the knee when you can...don't aggravate it. I'd let the doc lead on this one.
Are you elevating with leg right up against wall, while lying on your back sometimes? What has doctor suggested might be reason for it and what has she or he suggested?
I've only seen the doctor once and he really offered no other suggestions except to ice and elevate. Said possible caused by blood thinners. If I can't get it down he may have to drain it and I DO NOT want to do that. I will try the elevation against the wall. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks. I guess going to the Journey concert last night wasn't the best idea for the swelling, but it did wonders for my mental health. I will continue to elevate and ice and hopefully I'll see some improvement. I'm only 12 days out and I thought this swelling was normal. It doesn't seem that BIG!!
12 days out and going to a Journey concert?? Pushing though crowds?? My goodness, I couldn't have done that. I was seeing a PT therapist at my house 3x a week for the first 3 weeks. Was barely getting by. Geez. Slow down. Take it easy. You have been through a major operation.
Back in 2007, I had double hernia surgery at 7 am...out of the hospital by noon. At 9 pm I was on stage playing a 3-hour blues gig with my band! Yes, there were considerable amounts of Vicodin involved but after a TKR??? Not a chance in hell...at 12 days I was still drooling all over myself...
WHAT! Well, as you said, good for your mental health! Lie back with the music on your tablet and CHILL! 😀😁😃
Anti-inflammatories.
Me too. I don't even have memories of the first 10 days!
This is magic to me!! Wow, you're doing well! 12 days out!! again wow! I can't even remember anything from the first 10 days. Ice and elevate...
I get home the following day. After one night of trying to take care of me, my wife had me unceremoniously shipped out to a rehab place. Don't remember the ride. I think there was a lot of drooling involved.
Haha lol. I can't believe you guys stay in hospital for such a short time! I was 10 days in hospital, then 4 weeks in rehab both times.
