Would you go swimming at 6 weeks post op? Consultant has said its fine by 6 weeks but hasn't physically seen me yet and my perineum is still sore?
Is there any risk of infection by now?
Also are there any stokes that would cause too much strain at this point?
thanks.
I don't know when it is safe to swim, but I think that once it is time that a gentle flutter kick would be the safeset. I think that the kick that goes with the breaststroke would be too much.
Thanks Dory, I think you are probably right about the breaststroke.
Hi Ellie,
Personally I wouldn't go until the soreness has gone. Chlorine can be nasty stuff!
Thanks, I think that is the most sensible idea.
I saw you've had the same repairs as me. How are you recovering? Is you perineum still sore?
Don't go ahead and do anything until cleared by the Surgeon that did your operation. Everybody heals differently and over all sorts of lengths of time. I was cleared at 7wks to do most normal things (never heavy lifting though) as all my stitches had gone and I was well healed.
Hi Ellie, YES! it's very sore. Had no trouble with it until about 4 days and now I'm raiding my youngest ones sudocreme twice a day lol. It seemed the ache in my bum went and the soreness arrived
.
Still got that slight dragging feeling too which makes me paranoid it hasn't worked (even though from comments on here that it's completely normal)
How's your recovery?
Similar really. Some days not bad at all, others totally exhausted. Some days so much pain in perineum others not that bad but it's always really tender to touch or after sitting for a while. I dont think it's healed very well. There's loads of scar tissue and a big hard lump!
I don't get the aching feeling too bad unless I've done a lot all day and then I really feel like I need to rest.
i find it difficult in that I don't look ill and wonder if my family think I'm milking it!
im meant to be back to work around 7th but don't know if that's a good idea. Do you have to go back to work?
have you had a feel, is it swollen? Mine still feels so swollen, either that or it's been sewn almost shut 😱
She said via email that by 6 weeks swimming would be fine but I don't feel totally healed which is why I'm not sure it's a great idea??
Hi Ellie,
I'm very fortunate, I'm a full time mum and my husband is a self employed tradesman so he's been able to work around me and our boys.
I haven't messed around with it too much and it's still too swollen to have a look to see the repair to 'the gape' but I can feel it's a lot different. I read somewhere that it is very tight to begin with and then relaxes a little after time? My surgeon told me after the op that it looked as if I'd never had children now so fingers crossed I haven't done anything to mess it up!
I think its normal at this stage?!
Yes I'm sure it's normal! At least I hope it is.
thats great your husband is self employed, mine too although he didn't really take time off!
Sorry if im rude, can i ask in full detail the symptoms of your prolapse pls? Im sure i have one and im in pain all the time and also get burning.
Haha... Not rude at all cath! I noticed it after the super quick delivery of my second child.
Felt I was left with a gaping hole and then felt what can only be described as a 'bulge' coming through Which I could physically push back in. Worse around the time of my period but always there.
Sex was uncomfortable at best and at other times painful.
Finally plucked up courage to go to docs early this year and had surgery end of November.
Have you been advised to do any pelvic floor exercises? I don't know if I'm supposed to be doing them or not?
My main symptom since giving birth to 9lb 4oz Son 27yrs ago was stress incontinence. (Had anterior repair 10wks ago). Then at my last regular smear test middle last year my GP told me I had anterior prolapse. Now I can sneeze, jog, crack up laughing etc. all with absolutely no leakage at all. Yahooooo for an excellent Urogynae specialist.
