Switched to asprin

I finished 6 months of apixaban back in may for a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Ive been on baby asprin sinve then and so far no pe or dvt. Has anyone else switched from anticoagulants to asprin?

No I was on Aspirin for another condition prior to getting a PE and still on it, I'm six months in as well but cardiologist wants to take me off Pradaxa and start me on Warfin, I'm not sure what his plan is but I have been told I'll be on blood thinners for life. Hopefully not, but I'll see by the end of the year.

Hi,   Ask  for Apixaban or Rivaroxaban instead of Warfarin as no need to go for regular tests to adjust the dose.  I am on Apixaban for life and no side effects or problems.  Could not get on with Rivaroxaban due to nose and ear bleeds but many have no problem.  A new one due out soon will have an antidote I am told.

Hi,

I was put on Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) I had severe side effects with that, I was in emergency nearly every day with my angina chest pain, , GP took me off them and put me onto Pradaxa, no problems with that medication what so ever. Cardiologist has said to me that those medications aren't suited for the type of PE's I have / had, don't ask me what the differences are, I have no Idea, he says that Warfarin is the drug of choice in my situation and I think also the fact that he can keep an eye on my troponins when having the routine blood tests, as some paramedics and emergency doctors have suggested that may be part of the reason, troponins.

I finished my 6 months of blood thinners. Im wondering if anyone has gone off blood thinners and just take asprin.

Hi Samantha. No I am still on Apixaban. Was told a year ago would be on it for life. 😲💐

Seems like good reasoning for Warfarin. As I said Rivaroxaban gave me problems, and since been told that as Apixaban is two tablets per day you are not being hit with the strong dose the same so less problems. Hope it works well for you.

I was on Pradaxa for 6 months. Then I switched to baby aspirin in February. So far there hasn’t been another PE. I had bilateral PE in august, 2016 because of being on the pill and a plane flight.

                           I've been on Rivaroxaban now for six months for a Saddle pulmonary embolism and I've now been given the all clear from my  consultant but I will have to be on Rivaroxaban for the rest of my life.
