I'm a big guy, 208cm, 150 kg, 31 years old.
Years ago I injured my ankle, sprain and continued to walk on it for several days before i was able to rest. Since then i've had ankle problems and foot swelling, Quite some time after that it was injured again in a similar way and same thing didn't give it proper rest for some time. Years later the left side of the left ankle is always swollen and dark; the entire foot itself stays pretty swollen now too. I eat rather healthy and exercise a good bit but always have a constant swelling and the pain is getting worse. Doctor didn't give much besides recommending compression socks, they don't help much at all. Never had diabetes or any blood clots I know of either.
Hi JollyGeeenG,
constant swelling is is not something to put off when compression socks r recommended did u ask why? It's a usually a fluid build up issu not from an injury. Sometimes the heart cannot keep up circulating fluids in the body. Compression socks help. Do u have high blood pressure?
If icing and taking anti inflammatory meds don't help. Please ask UR doc for other treatment if the socks are not helping. Could be arthritis,RA.. Any number of things. Blood tests will help with a diagnosis and treatment.
Has UR doc suggested water pills..or given u a diagnosis? Sometimes water pills helps with fluid removal and swelling in the lower extremities .
My knees swell with synovial fluid since a fall yrs ago. The fluid is removed with syringe. u have no DVT or diabetis there could be a vein blockage causing fluid to build up. Stents can be inserted in the major arteries in both legs to open up clogged arteries. If this is the cause of swelling. Has UR circulation been checked by Ultra sound ? Maybe it would help to see a specialist. Many times drs treat with conventional techniques first then if that does't work they move on to the next treatment. It's like finding a needle in a haystack until something helps. keep UR feet up I'm sure u know the drill.. It's always something!
I've tried waterpills, he wasn't sure what the problem was specifically and sent me to a vein specialist. They did an untra sound and called me back and just said they want to close/remove some veins in the leg but don't think that is the cause of the swelling.
That alone gives me more questions about negatives of closing a vein in the leg and even if that will help the swelling at all.
Hi.
well that is a bit alarming.. Keep me posted on UR progress..
