I contracted genital herpes (I think just 3 weeks ago) and after my initial outbreak, which was 1-2 weeks of ■■■■, the sores (and pain) have now gone and I'm feeling myself again (yay!). Because the first outbreak was so bad, my doctor recommended I take the anti-viral tablets for another few days, which I did.
Now, two days later after I stoppped taking the anti-viral pills, I've noticed swollen glands on my frontal groin area, one to the left and one to the right at the top of my legs. I don't know whether this is just an after effect of the inital outbreak, or whether it is already coming back. In 2 days I'm going on holiday to Spain for ten days and I don't have time to go back to the doctors. I know that worrying won't help and I've got the anti-viral cream and a couple of tablets left to take with me.
I've not heard about 'after-effects' of an outbreak such as swollen gland sin the groin after the outbreak, so am not sure what to think. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks...
Lizaz, I stopped taking valtrex a month ago for daily therapy.(has been on it for 6 plus some months). I started to get swollen and tender lympth nodes in the front of my groin as well, about two weeks after stopping it. I ended up only having a couple itchy bumps on my bum and that was it really. No pain. The swelling went down in a few days. I believe it was an attempt at breaking out, but the swelled because they were fighting the infection. Because you are doing on holiday, I would caution on the safe side and take meds while there.. Especially being you're going to be traveling ans longer hours will lower your immune system and this is a new infection for you.
If you can't get in to see the doctor, can they call in a script for you? If not, then break those pills in half so you have somethibg to take.
I recommend taking a daily probiotic, 3xs vitamin c daily, olive extract w the oleuropein at 20% at least and zinc. This will help w your immune system and the olive leaf is an antiviral. Keep in mind that if you drink a LOT of alcohol and stay up auowr late, it can be a trigger for an ob. Having my period is also a trigger for me and I'll have a breakout even on daily meds. I was supposed to have my cycle last week, but I started my birth control Kate, so I'm passes y date, but I think my hormones were still changing and triggered a very mild ob. On daily meds, I would have one to two mild obs a month ans they were sores on my bits. Just an itchy bump on my cheek was nothing
