Swollen knee now affecting whole leg

I started with a swollen knee two weeks ago which my doctor said was housemaids knee. It then progressed to a swollen inflamed leg and swollen ankle. A course of antibiotics had little effect and a blood test showed no infection in the blood, or raised markers for gout.

I’m now on anti-inflammatory medication which, at this stage (2 days) does not appear to working yet.

I’ve read up on Pseudogout and my symptoms appear to fit.

I had an arthroscopy on my other knee nine years ago when that swelled up.

Is it possible my original swollen knee has now gone down to affect my whole leg? If so what would be a course of treatment?

The gout can spread from joint to joint ankle to knee to toe ect. ect.  It just amazes me how the doctors don't see this quicker. See a dietician to learn the proper foods to eat and in a few weeks you'll see results. Learn the gout diet. Become more alkaline, lose some weight, start walking or another exercise you like. Too much fat, purines, acids, and I'm starting to think prossed foods will bog your kidnesys down. Look up gout diets, gout foods, eat more alkaline foods than acidic ones. Have the doctor test you uric acid count, most likely it is elevated. Good Luck, and it may take a few weeks or so to get back to normal. I've been gout free for a few months now took about 5 weeks for me. And every day I stay on the diet I feel better and better. I just so glad and thankful the pain is gone now. PS I removed all HFCS from drinks and foods. And I drank lots of water no soda. Eating lots of vegetables and fruits, whole grain bread only. I also use PHgreens 1 tsp in a glass of water to become more alkaline. And alkaline water for the first few months. Now I just use regular water from the britta filter. I cut back totally on fatty meats like sausage, beef and pork. Now I'm better I have them twice a month now, no more than 8oz. at a time. Look up how to make alkaline water at home it's easy and cheap. Again best to your health.

I think I've narrowed it down to Pseudogout, Psoriatic Arthritis (already in family) or Cellulitis. Off to the doctor again tomorrow for a further consultation. Thanks for the information.

to Rod... how are you doing now? am asking cuz my husband is going thru something similar to your condition... knee swelling affecting the whole leg ....

though he was given some steroid shots on the knee and he is on his 2nd day since the shots....

by the way... doc says it's pseudogout....

may i ask if you went to see a doctor? if ever, did he administer steroids unto the affected knee? my husband is 58 now... and this is his first experience with pseudogout....

I have been diagnosed with pseudogout.  I have been on all of the recommended medications, nothing has helped.  It's been 7 months of constant swelling in my knees.  I had been seeing a rhumetoid artheritis specialist and now they are sending me back to ortho.  My day to day life is extremely effected as I can hardly do the day to day taske I need to do.  Have you had any luck???
