Hi
Just wanted some advice or if anyone has experienced this at all. I'm 5 weeks THR posterior approach. I have noticed that since the dressing came off one large lump at the top of the wound at the side has stayed consistent in size,it's about the size of an orange but cut in half,if you can imagine, apologies that's all I can equate it too, lol. It is always warm to touch,no signs of redness or infection, it just won't go away. I did have some little lumps and bumps, they have all gone. I have been massaging it daily, with a little firm pressure but makes no difference. The scar is perfectly fine, not sure if I should contact the gp? I don't want to waste thier time if it's normal.my consultant appointment is in 2 weeks. Would be really grateful if anyone has any thoughts.
Regards Nicky
I hope your oranges are smaller than mine! Because that would make a very large lump. But no, that isn't normal. And neither is warm to the touch at this stage. The scar itself might be a little warm still at 2-3 weeks - but a warm lump that is very large, and at 5 weeks? No. Get to the doctor and have it checked.
Hi Beth,
Thanks for your advice, normal size orange! That's why I described it as half an orange, like cut in half,I'm not the best at describing things,I just assumed it was scar tissue but with it not changing. I'll ring the gp tomorrow and get it checked.
Regards Nicky
It could be scar tissue yes. But if it is as large as you are saying that wouldn't be normal scar tissue. Some lumps possibly - but lumps, not hillocks! I would definitely, in your shores, want to be told two things - what it is, and how to get rid of it! A scar we can live with. A few bumps or lumps, yeah ok. But what you seem to be describing really isn't something you want longer term. I hope it's nothing, but even if it is, you want it gone!
Nicky:
You have a hematoma. I had the same. Ice it and it will go away on its own in a week or two. It forms from liquids escaping from internal sutures of the enclosed capsule surrounding your new joint.
Take care
Hi,
Thanks Beth, your right,I'll get it checked tomorrow, I shouldn't of perhaps left it so long.
Thanks for your advice, hopefully it can be sorted out.
Regards Nicky
Hi Erin,
Yes I thought perhaps it might be was unsure though, thanks for your advice, that's really helpful will definitely give the ice a go.
Regards Nicky
I also had posterior thr and I as told by the home visiting by she it was blood and would eventually go away. I thought it would never go down! Thank goodness it eventually did! Took a while though.
Good luck and speedy recovery!
Hi Joyce,
Thank-you, it's not particularly painful but more uncomfortable, I'm going to ring the gp today just to get it checked. Thank-you for your well wishes. It must take some time to go away, glad yours did.
Nicky
Hi Erin,
You were right
It was a haematoma, nurse said it may take months to go. Thanks for your help, she just said look out for signs of infection, which it's fine at the moment.
Hooe your recovering well
Nicky.
Nicky:
Ice really helped the lump go away sooner.
Glad it was nothing more serious
Take care,
Thankyou
Yes it really is! I thought it would be good to post the outcome as it may help others.
Regards
Nicky
Glas to hear it wasn't much. That's one very large one though. But always best to check things out if you don't know, and anything that is slightly warm should always be checked.
Hi, thank you,
Hopefully it won't take too long to go yes definitely needed to be checked, although quite large, still softish to the touch, apparently if it goes very hard,it could be a sign of infection but it.seems fine,I'll keep an eye on it.
