Had surgery this AM Symfony ZXR00 IOL on a very dense cataract. Left hospital wearing provided sunglasses & my IOL eye was able to see better than my a non cataract eye on drive home, clarity, colors reading road signs.. No halos, concentric circles... time will tell. Absolutely no pain during the procedure. Will update progress as it goes, definitely a major improvement over what I went in with. Seeing doctor tomorrow will keep up this post as days goes on.
Excellent News! I have the ZXT225 in both eyes. Halos and concentric circles only appear at night. Keep us posted.
Excellent news Dennis - sounds like a good outcome.
Daytime vision with Symfony is great. Wishing you all the best.
Will be interested in your updates and how your near vision is.
So happy for you. Don't want to sound like a broken record, but please rest your eye(s). After my hubby had both eyes implanted with ZXR00 IOLs, he avoided computer and TV completely for a week, and cut down computer hours the following weeks.
Very happy that the procedure went well for you, Dennis!
Please let us know about:
a) eye dryness
b) reading
c) night vision
d) any discomfort
if you have a moment.
Every good wish to you!
Cheers,
Ed
I will check with doctor tomorrow if computer has a damaging effect? If so I will cover cataract eye & use my old one (eye) as I have a lot of design project & on computer 10hrs+ a day.
Thanks for your input/
I had to go back to work soon after my procedure and was on my iPhone and computer. I had asked about that and activities may dry your eye a bit but won’t damage the eye or IOL.
Things to be careful ; wear the eye patch at night to avoid rubbbng it (I wore mine for 2 weeks as I tend to rub my eyes). Avoid getting water from shower etc in the eye while it heals, no excess lifting (anything over 5 lbs - maybe different for a guy) no bending over for a few days or strenuous activity like jogging (walking is fine).
Anyone else given different instructions?
That's tough on your eyes, if you have to get back to work immediately on computer 10hyrs+ a day. Try to rest your eyes by looking away from the screen every now and then.
Hubby can read from under his nose up to arm's length. So he must be doing something right. I was struggling during my first two weeks after cataract surgery, whenever I spent over 30 minutes on iPad, I got that blinding pain that shot through my brain.
I am happy to hear the Symfony worked so well for you. I had the same Symfony model implanted on Monday. I’m very happy with it so far. I’m excited to have my other eye done on 8/30. Left eye will be a Symfony Toric lens.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.. just emailed surgeon this his reply to asking him about computer or TV time."No restrictions on activity. Just don’t rub or poke the eye."
The following is doctors post op instructions:
Use the prescribed surgical eyedrops on the day of surgery (after you get home) and continue as instructed. Resume all other prior eyedrops (such as glaucoma eyedrops) on the day of the surgery.
Resume all other prior systemic medications.
If you received a clear eye shield, you may keep it on and sleep with it for the first night. You can move it aside to place eyedrops as needed. Please remove it permanently the following morning.
For the first week, keep your eyes protected either with your current prescription glasses or sunglasses when you go outdoors.
Activity Restrictions:
Don’t rub your eye for a week
Don’t swim for one week or scuba dive for one month
Wear proper protection for any sports/activities where you may be hit in the eyes. Avoid eyeliner and mascara for a week; other makeup is ok
OK to do the day after surgery:
Exercise: go to the gym, Yoga, jog
Air travel
Bending and Lifting
Bathing and Showering – keep your eyes closed and avoid shampoo into the eyes for 1 week.
Keep your postoperative appointments or call to reschedule.
How Your Eye May Feel The First Few Days After Surgery
Mild irritation, mild redness, dryness, sensitivity to light, are NORMAL for the first few days after cataract surgery.
Awesome news Dennis. Rest up and keep the updates coming as you heal.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!
I was wondering how things went and am so pleased for you. Follow your doc's advice about nothing strenuous and all will be well. I was doing 18 point counted cross-stitch (very, very tiny squares) the day after surgery, so as long as you're not putting a strain (ie, lifting, heavy vomiting/coughing, etc) on your eyes, enjoy the new vision!
Almost forgot...my doc also recommended sleeping in an upright/recliner position for the first three nights to prevent rolling over on the eye.
Day 1 after surgery. Last night I notice halo effect+ 1 diagonal long lens flare around bright lights in darken surroundings (street light & blue bright LED on a cable control box). These did not annoy me too much being a computer illustrator for years & usually the way I rendered bright lights in my illustrations. Do not feel IOL in operated left eye. Had follow up visit with Dr & all checked out A OK & she said vision will even get better as slight swelling heals from surgery. Wants to see me again in 2 weeks to prescribe glasses. Overall I am really pleased with how vision worked out. Presently +1.25 seems to work best to see very small type 6pt or less & no glasses need for 20" to far distance. So far have not seen concentric rings associated with Symfony lens.
The only challenge now is to balance glasses using 2 different lenses till I get a prescription from Dr. Have all my old glasses from 10 years ago so I will try to mix & match.
Thanks for your advice... I sleep with a foam wedge which helps a minor gerd condition at night. Probably good for post carrot surgery.
Ed Day 2 after surgery
a) eye dryness
None
b) reading
Can read this email no glasses. Combines my current prescription glasses... broke out left lens & hot glued a +1.25 lens from my 1st pair of reading glasses. Helps read smaller print. Definitely improving 2nd day from 1st
c) night vision
Pleased with it coming from a dense cataract, although not truly tested. See halo & lens flare around bright lights.... not a problem.
d) any discomfort
Absolutely None
Will update as the days go... set up distance eye chart & small type page (12pt to 6pt type)... improvement 1st to 2nd day... will update in future.
Hi Dennis just wondering how things are going for you. Have you returned to work? How has your vision been?
Hi Sue.An.... So Far still very pleased with my results. Was able to work from home same day as surgery... & working since (work is mainly on computer}. Vision has been improving since surgery. Long distance is 20/23. My near vision +1.25 helps. Halos/Flare still there & not annoying. Still not seen any concentric rings so far. I hot glued a +1.25 lens into my current perception glasses & looks great for reading very small type. My ex-cateract eye has taken over distance & I do not need any glasses for driving. Notice a big color change between 2 eyes (whites & colors on post cateract eye much cleaner/whiter/saturated).
After reading Komico's post I downloaded some new Jaeger & Snellen eye charts will print them in morning.
As per Dr instructions cut eye drops from 3 (2x a day) to 2 (1x a day)
Have an appointment in 3 days to see eye doctor (this is 12 days post surgery). Thinking I should cancel & make another 21 days post surgery... which should give me a more accurate read for eye glass prescription.
Have minor cataract in other eye & considering doing surgery as soon as it gets worse.... possibly for even closer vision... maybe Zeiss Lara gets approved in USA.
Thanks for providing an update. Glad to hear you are doing well. I think my checkups with surgeon were at 1 week and 6 weeks. I imagine each has their own routine.
I didn’t see concentric circles for weeks but started seeing them once glare subsided. Perhaps you have escaped them and won’t see any. Wishing you a good recovery.
Did your near vision improve with time?
