Symptoms of high blood pressure in association with stress

Hi i was wondering if anybody could help me with regards the effects of stress.

Not been myself lately say for a couple of months. Feel a bit shaky, nagging fuzziness in my head (but not any real pain) sometimes feel numb when it comes to talking and a strange sensation in my upper chest again no pain but just aware of a slight pressure/flutter feeling.

Also get a pain in my leg if driving or walking up a steep hill

I`m 53 average weight and reasonably fit

My partner booked me in for a check up and my GP suggested it  might be stress related. He gave me a routine BP test and i had an initial reading of 215 over 115 !! He ditched the electronic monitor and went for the old fashion method but again was reading over 200.

He said there was a problem and perscribed ramipril.

Had an ECG and blood tests which were OK. BP down to 190 over112 yesterday but still think this is extremely high.

Bought an OMRON today and averaging 190/110.

Heart beat is around 50 which seems low.

I am hoping the ramipril will bring this down.

My question is could stress/anxiety cause these symptoms  ? Or is it more likely there is another cause as yet undetected?

Never been a hypochondrac but just a little worried :-)

Be grateful for any replies

Thanks

Hello,

Yes, high blood pressure is the most common symptom of stress. I'm 21, healthy and a runner with a bp of 190/110 often, due to stress.

Certainly could be stress related,it won't help, but could be another underlying cause.

My blood pressure is up and down, have been to your levels, but I checked out OK on all tests for heart and circulation.

However I am on Clopidrogel for atrial fibrillation which was diagnosed years ago but no-one informed me of it,until I was invited to take part in an over 60's health check!

So in a nutshell stress will aggravate your blood pressure and well-being,from what you say though I would suggest you may have a little something else,go back to your doctor and see if he'll fit you up with a monitor that will record your heart rhythms for 24 hours and then put you on a treadmill to check out your BP and heart rate under supervision, best to be safe.

Are you on statins at all, they will help, but Clopidrogel is fine by me,but try to keep your anxiety levels down, not easy, but it will help.

I wish you all the best and on this forum you will find many people who suffer as you do and who will certainly be only too glad to help you.

Thanks for the response :-)

Guess the solution is to resolve the root problem in what is causing the stress in the first place.

Good luck and thanks again

Hi Malc

Thanks for the reply and will take your advice when i have my next check up next week.

Just on ramipril at the moment.

Decided to have a few days in Italy also as sure a bit of sunshine and a catch up read of some books will work wonders!

Best of luck

Kind Regards

Rick
