Syndesmotic injury with 3rd degree ankle sprain

I injured my ankle over 4 months ago. I went to a&e and was told to rest for 2-3 days then get back to work. After 6 weeks I went to a&e again and was referred to the ankle clinic. Treatment started 9.5 weeks post injury. It was severely unstable so immobilised for a month in an aircast. Then 6 weeks with a stirrup brace, I had physio all the way through. It started to become more painful again and an added diagnosis of syndesmosis injury was made. Now 4 months in I'm still hobbling, have gone from cycling 50 miles a week and playing sport twice weekly to doing nothing and am totally sick of it. Has anyone else had this combination of injury (I'm told it's very rare with out a fracture) and how long did it take to heal? Thanks.

Sure do, Mine happened in January 2013, was put down as sciatica, then arthritis. Had physio 3 times now after MRI scan put supports in both shoes which has made it worse . Told need operation. Had flu so didnt feel like asking questions. Same troubles as you, gave bike to charity shop. Pain and limited activity is awful after being very active also having to take pain medication. Upward movement of foot is 2 thirds of what is required to walk. So it isnt that rare, there must be a simple answer. Do you have restricted foot movement.

MRI scan apparently showed nothing, so still stuck with foot nerve problems also lack of full upward movement and requireing to use walker for short distances.
