Tablets or diet?

Hi all

I am 18 days post op.

Yesterday I had really bad stomach cramp and was back on stronger pain killers, which did settle it down It was not in my right side like it was with the gallstones, just central stomach ache.

I am reducing Buscopan as my GP wants me to do this.

On Friday night I had scampi and chips and a large ice cream.

Not sure if problems were caused by reducing tablets or too much fatty food with chips and ice cream.

Problems did not start till yesterday mid morning so I'm guessing if it was the food, I would have had problems overnight?

Maybe these little relapses are going to happen and we just have to del with them.

Hi Sarah sorry to hear you had stomach pains. Chips and ice cream are very high in fat and would definitely cause a stomach pain a few weeks after surgery. Most people are advised to eat low fat for the first 4-6 weeks while your body adjusts to a new way of digesting food. Also a lot of people find they can't tolerate dairy as well as they could prior to surgery. Of all the people I've spoken too the majority avoid dairy due to digestion issues. Some still can't tolerate dairy many years later. Hope this helps. X

Thanks. Ofcourse you are right. Thought I was doing so well I would risk it.

Trouble was it was tex mex (mexican) menu mainly which I am really not that keen on. So it was either that or something with chips.

I will certainly be more careful next time.

Thanks for replying.

Sarah

No problem Sarah. Am delighted your doing so well. You will be able to eat the chips and ice cream again in another few weeks. A good friend of mine had her gallbladder removed 10 years ago and she couldn't eat certain things the first 6 weeks and then she tried them again and she was fine. Take care xx
