I was told if my uterus and fibroids are big that they will be cut I read that if they were to big it shouldn't be done vaginally I'm very confused i was even told that no.Dr with there right mind would do a tah I'm so nervous should I go for a 2 oppion
Hi Diane. TAH are quite common I'm afraid. I think Drs will always try the least invasive procedure possible but more often than not large fibroids removed with uterus require a bikini line or vertical incision. I had a very large fibroid and was told that the surgeon would have to decide during the op which incision he would make. Fortunately he was skilled enough to give me a very neat and low bikini line despite the fact the fibroid was the size of a rugby ball. It all depends, everyone is different. It is always a daunting prospect but I'm sure it will all work out fine. Best of luck.
Hi Diane
I was hoping for a vaginally hysterectomy but scan showed uterus was size of a 4 month pregnancy and multiple fibroids. Had a TAH 5 weeks
ago. Very straight forward no problems, got a 6 inch incision just below
bikini line, all looks very neat. You're bound to be nervous, have you had your pre op appointment. I found mine very helpful had lots of questions going round in my head, very nervous but doctor put my mine at rest.
Went into the op knowing what they were going to do.
Good luck
If there is a possibility of cancer, a TAH is best so the Dr can see everything and the uterus can be taken out in one piece . If you cut up the uterus you can accidentally spread cancer cells to other parts of the body.
