Taking 2 weeks off from worrying

To all the lovely people who have sent messages of encouragement.

I am so fed up with hanging around waiting for the referral I have decided to slope off for two weeks.

Going to Mallorca on Tuesday March 22nd until Tues April 5th. I reckon that two weeks will make no difference.

Will still be following forum from there.

Love to everybody

Good for you, that is what i did in april last year whilst waiting for a date for my first thr and the week i got back i got a cancellation, also in november had a cancellation then as well, both op were done in Spire Hospital Norwich, how long have you been waiting for referrel, i waited 3 months

Hi Gloriajoy

You just go girl have a great time your referrral will come eventually but

if you can have a relaxing holiday meantime you have it your pain will

ease with the heat lol

I would have loved that before my op but unfortunately I was in so much

pain and could not walk far so I was better at home being completely

miserable 😟 .You have a great time and sunshine and cocktails will be a good

pick you up along with good company and a good laugh πŸ˜€

Best thing to do. When I found my surgeon was on holiday for the whole of March last year I went to Cyprus for a week. In the end my date was April 10

Enjoy your holiday ì went away in November telling myself it will be last one on my old hip. Surprisingly I did not receive as much pain as I usually do and managed to walk about quite a lot I had osteo arthritis and the heat definitely helped so did the vino which is a pain suppressant.

It will take your mind of it and there is no point in worrying about something you can't control.

Have a fab holiday😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

I wonder if there are less THR's for OA in hot sunny countries ?

I regularly spend time in North Cyprus where my son lives.Certainly I feel better when I am there, pos due to the cheering effects of the sun.

Some expats I have met have had THR but mostly before leaving UK.

One friend of Karin my son's wife had a recent hip replace there, but that was due to a bad fall causing a broken hip.( health and safety is non-existent there, uneven paths, uncovered manholes and other hazards)

Karin is of the opinion that I should get mine done there where waiting lists don't exist. All treatment is private but I am told much cheaper than here.

I don't think that is a good idea for me.I prefer to be in UK where if anything should go wrong the NHS is there to pick up the pieces.

Most local people I have heard about have needed surgery due to accidents.

One local lady I know has had a number of ops and is now unable to drive. Her spine is in a bad way and her doctors would like to operate but she is very scared.

From what I have read it seems that people of African descent are less prone to the problem and have much stronger bones.

I know the sun is beneficial for many conditions. However cancer is a big problem in North Cyprus.

So its swings and roundabouts as they say.rolleyes

I'm with you I'd definitely have it done in the UK. I only waited 12 weeks for my operation. I went to a private hospital which was funded by the NHS. I did put the operation off 2 years ago as I was scared of being awake for the procedure.

My friend fell over in Cyprus she went to hospital and they put in foot in a plaster cast. When she returned to the UK the hospital said it was not broken and that the plaster cast was put on in a way that would damage her bones and not necessary. UK all the way for me.

Have a good time take care of the pavements .

Sue

I am going to Mallorca for two weeks, not Cyprus this time.

Was your friend in North or South Cyprus ?

I go to the North (the Turkish side which is not in the EU)

Limassol

Thank you Helen

It's not actually very good weather there at the moment.

But I am meeting up with a good friend who lives there.

I also hope to see people I have known over a period of thirty years.

Not sure who will be around. I just booked my flights at very short notice on spur of the moment.

Often the best way.

I get so fed up just waiting around, something that is new to me since the dreaded hip problem. So used to just taking off whenever I feel like it.Now feel like my life's not my own, but a good life lessen.

Thank you for your good wishes

S/be life lesson! (not lessen)

Life is short enough as it is!

def a good idea, have some chill out time and recharge those batteries lol have a great holiday.

Hi Marilyn

Was first diagnosed around August 2013 but did not request a referral until a year later.

My choice of hospital was refused and I was unwilling to accept the alternative. So some of the delay is my own fault.

I then decided to see a physio (who was brilliant) with me believing lots of swimming, pilates, and the exercises the physio had given me would sort me out.

Unfortunately my condition has worsened, prompting me to start the process again.

This time I saw my doctor following a bone scan in Dec 2015 the results of which showed serious deterioration.

The recommendation from that scan was for me to be referred to the musculoskeletal clinic.

That was 19th Jan 2016 with an xray to follow on 16th Feb 2016.

When that result was received I got a call from the clinic 1st on 2nd March, then again on 4th March.

So it is fair to say that I have not been waiting very long.

It just seems like it !!

Thanks for your good wishes
