Talonavicular fusion

Hi everyone !

Im 24 years old, with a navicular stress fracture (non union) and moderate Osteoarthritis.
My Surgeons have recommended that the only option is a talonavicular fusion.
Has anyone had this operation and what were you like physically post op ? i.e. running ?

Thanks,
Will

I have five months post-op from a talonavicular fusion on my right foot. It was not worse (or better) than the two subtalar fusions I have had on my ankles. Your post-op experience will be dictated on how well you adhere to the instructions. As you know, you’ll be in a plaster cast for two weeks, then a fiberglass cast for around four to six weeks - with zero weight bearing until you get your walking boot (around six to eight weeks post op) and go from there.

It will take a while to regain your strength and sense of normalcy. As I mentioned, I am five months post op and still do not have the full strength to run great distances just yet, but, it is getting there slowly.

Total recovery takes around 12 months - but, it is worth it to not have that pain that I had anymore.

Hope this helps some!
