Tapping therapy for depression?

Received an email from a friend today about an item on her local news last night. It was a story about how patients with depression have benefitted from a therapy treatment which involves tapping on acupuncture pressure points whilst giving a positive message. Has anyone had any therapy of this nature? Sounds interesting if it actually works.

Wow, never heard of this but please keep us posted if you try it and how it works for you. Anything to me always better than taking a drug. Would they do this along side your Remiron or instead of?

I wanted to reply to your post as I really benefited from the response you gave me recently. While I can't claim to know an awful lot about EFT or tapping, I like you also had a friend that was interested in it. EFT/tapping is a combination of repeatedly tapping acupuncture points and neuro-linguistic programming and thought field therapy. From what I can remember a typical session would focus on a specific issue you maybe having, so you would repeatedly say something positive for that issue and tap the acupuncture points accordingly. The only other thing I know about it is Paul McKenna performs it as a way of helping people feel more positive, it's not really linked to hypnotism though so you won't end up clucking like a chicken smile

Like all alternative therapies it's had some negative press, some people say that because it incorporates more conventional therapies any positives you get would be because of them. The way I look at it is if it's helpful then it was worth trying and people have found it useful.

Apologies for the epic email, I tend to get abit carried away when I start typing, hope it helps.

I'm not sure, I don't think it is something they are rolling out nationally, just being trialled. Yeah I agree that it would be a good alternative to taking antidepressants in cases where this is possible, most probably best for mild cases of depression where antidepressants aren't needed, and as you say to work alongside antidepressant treatment in moderate cases of depression.

Hi, it sounds like the type of therapy Paul McKenna uses with hypnotherapy for all sorts of issues and it seems to work for some people but not all.

Hey Kerry, yeah i am skeptical about it being something that would work for everyone, guess there is no harm in it though if it was to work alongside antidepressants, just had never heard of it before.

Hi Pat thanks for your reply, was waiting for it to be approved smile. Ah I'm glad that my reply to you helped you. Yeah she's a close friend but she lives miles away sad she has been very supportive through this, she sends me random things all the time. Yeah I can see why there would be negative views about it. I think even the name 'Emotional Freedom Technique' would put me off from the get go. Great if it works for some people though.

Hello, I am actually going to see someone tomorrow who does what you described in your first post, I am also skeptical about the hole thing but ill give it a go.

Hi Rhys smile

Oh really, you will have to let us know how it goes.

Yes ill let you know how it goes, I'm having it for anxiety really.. but because it controls my life that does get me depressed.

Yeah I'm suffering from anxiety and depression. Hope it works for you.
