OK. I'm about 8 months into treatment for PMR. Lately I've developed a weird, 24/7 AFTERTASTE. It's not a nasty taste, but any taste drives you crazy if it's unrelieved. I'm wondering whether it's related to the disease or the prednisone. Never experienced anything like this in my life before.
joe95412, I believe got this after taste from Predinisone. When I got under 10 mg it seemed to go away! Good luck. Still smiling 🙂
Thanks so much!
Hi
My sense of taste has been generally impaired with PMR/GCA but not with a specific aftertaste. I don't know the 'science' on this but inclined to think it is one of the nebulous symptoms that is either or both due to the Pred & PMR. Hope it improves as can be most unpleasant !
Thank you!
Joe, I am 8 months into PMR and at 6 mg prednisone and I have ametallic taste. It is annoying but not too big a deal. I believe it is a prednisone side affect>
No problems while on pred but in past when had strange taste in mouth discovered I needed to drink more water - slightly dehydrated.
Anhaga I think the Pred has screwed up, that part of my body also! I have always drank too much water, for years. Now they are telling me to reduce the amount because my sodium levels are too low. I drink the amount they tell me and then I am dehydrated. So I can drink a little more. My mouth, taste terrible, but it was better before under 10 mg. I will get there, doing with a smile! 🙂
This wasn't for me a pred problem, just one I had about 20 years ago and when I commented on it my friend said I should drink more water so I did and it got better!
Anhaga, I think I will feel much better when the dose get under 10 mg! 🙂
Hi joe95312,
I have pretty much lost my sense of taste since on prednisone......it has been almost 6 years now. I am almost down to 3 mg and My sense of taste is maybe slightly improved. I have also lost a lot of my ability to smell, too. Looking for a silver lining...... I suspect those two issues have kept my weight down as I rarely have much of an appetite.
