I have achalasia and have had surgery. I take Lansaprozole and Metoclompromide but still get a taste like soap (sometimes like copper) in my mouth. Any suggestions as to what can help this?
Hi Jody - it is a real bummer when your saliva glands get confused. Had a similar situation for 14 months. Found that Buderim Naked Ginger (get it on the net) and Aqua throat spray. You could try something very low cost. Put a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and swish it around your mouth and spit out. If you are not toooooooo bad it will refresh your mouth. If none of these works then Alpha Lipoic Acid is the big guns. I started on 400 mg a day and increased it to 800 until it worked. I was at a worse stage than you with ph swings from near full acid to full alkaline in my mouth. Can really get you down and doctors havent got a clue. Most think its all in the mind which of course is total rubbish. As you have already sussed its the meds interacting. Best of luck and hang in there!
Thanks for your suggestions - I will give some a go
Hi Jody,
May be the lansoprazole I had a horrible metallic taste when I was on them. Chicken always tasted off and it gave me awful cramp too. See your doc znd have a chat, they may put you on another med.
