I am 75 and have been very nearsighted since childhood. No astigmatism or presbyopia. 3 months ago I had cataract surgery with Technis Eyhance IOLs in both eyes.My request before surgery was to have IOLs that would give me the best near-vision possible. I would use glasses to correct for other distances. My work requires precise close vision and I am also hearing-impaired. I rely on subtitles, text writers and assisted devices to communicate. Since my cataract surgery 3 months ago I have had very poor vision at all distances. Blurriness caused by ghost images, shadowing. My eye surgeon urged me to be patient to see if it would get better as my eyes healed. I purchased new glasses to see if the ghost images could be corrected. Even with glasses the blurry double vision continued at all distances. For the past month I have used several dry eye treatments to eliminate dry eyes as a cause for poor vision. No improvement.This has really impacted my life.
QUESTIONS:
What could cause shadows/ghost images?
Is this a frequent side effect of Eyhance IOLs?
I’m not sure what do do next?
The Eyhance IOL is designed to give one a little bit extra EDOF without dysphotopsias or contrast lost. What you are describing as far as I know is not a side effect of the Eyhance IOL and I am a bit confused that the eye doctor thinks things will dramatically improve in time, if it has already been 3 months since surgery.
The only advice I can give is get a 2nd opinion and make sure it is a Top Doctor. Look for doctors that do clinical trials and write research papers. If in the US, you can start by looking at Newsweek’s 2021 list of top eye doctors.
As a last resort you could do an IOL extraction and implant a non-premium monofocal, but the Eyhance is considered to be a very safe IOL.
I had Eyhance left eye Oct 28. Perfect vision day one. Left eye Nov 11. Blurry every distance. I did see spiderweb halo etc the first night. Next day went post op check up. Dr said he saw some pco behind eye. Day after surgery. Took days but left eye did slowly increase clarity all distance vision. One month check up Dr said he sees pco behind both eyes next vision six month I will probably need yag. I see amazing without correction and if i use -.05 contact for equal distance clarit my vision is beyond what I could imagine. Please ask Dr if he sees to give you full exam if he sees any pco behind eye or any kind of fluid instead of focusing on your actual vision.
