my surgery in Monday 7am, USA, anterior, 67 years old. From reading I'm assuming I'll come home with TED socks. One pair. So I thought I'd get a second pair at the pharmacy so I'd be able to still wear a pair when the others are being washed. They have several sizes and different amounts of compression, mild, moderate and firm. Do you guys know which you actually came home in? Thx
Also open toe and closed toe?
Ask the hospital for a second or even a third pair. You'll be surprised that they will oblige. I asked for a second pair and they gave me 2 extras no charge.
I was just going to suggest what susanbaci did. I ended up with 3 pairs and only had to wear them for 2 weeks. Please don't spend money on them! I would even be willing to donate mine. I only wore one pair because I wasn't aware that I had the other two pairs!
Ok, I will ask the hospital. Thank you both!
We are in Boston and my husband was given a second pair by the hospital. Recommendations about wearing them seem to vary between surgeons. Some don't use them at all. He was instructed to wear them daytime only for the first two weeks.
Hope all goes well
Thx Holly

Hi Debbi - I wasn't asked to use them at all!
It might be best to ask your surgeon's office.
Good luck - it sounds as your H-day is coming soon.
Wishing you: a good and patient surgeon and kind nurses with a sense of humour and a smooth recovery.
Thanks to all who answered! I used to be scared about the surgery.....now the pain is so bad I begged to fill in for any cancellations! I know you all understand!
Yes indeed - good luck.
Hugs,
L
Hi Debbie first of all I would like to wish you well for your upcoming surgery and a speedy recovery. I also am in the USA but had the posterior approach almost 6 weeks ago. I didn't have TED socks but had blood thinning injections that I had to have daily. My surgeon's office wrote the prescription and had me get it filled prior to surgery. I also am in my 60's...Wish I could help with your questions about the TED socks....Mostly wanted to wish you well....Barb
Thx Barbie
Good luck anterior USA 03/15/16 6 wks open toe mild compression. They're a real pain but necessary and it feels wonderful when you take the off , Make sure you do your ankle pumps and take your meds. The more walking you do eventually you won't need them. Sleep on your back mostly and use lots of ice at least 1st week. Keep us posted ....
I will be posting, as the past year others here helped me by posting their experience. Thanks and I will take your advice!
