Ten days of taking Citalapram

I've been taking 20mg of this for ten days and within three days felt calmer and positive...I suffer from anxiety and Bulmia, diagnosed last week. I am a 47 yr old female. Anyway, I've felt a bit short tempered and very tired tonight, bursting into tears twice....I really want this medication to work, I don't want to go back to the old me....other than this I've not really had any side effects, I took the first pill last afternoon and was awake most of the night but now take it before 9 am every morning...I sometimes feel a little nauseous but until today have felt so much more positive...unsure if  it was working quickly or because I'd made the step to see the GP and tell him howI  was....

The first step to recovery is knowing there is an issue and making moves to sort it or at least learn to cope.

Different meds take time to work cit usually takes up to 6 weeks to really kick in but like I say everyone is different.

It is important to take little steps to recovery you will have ups and downs but over time you will find its getting easier.

Most important keep to a regular time with your tablets I go for the just before bed time so it gets in the system whilst sleeping but take them when comfy

Hi Lisa

I'm glad the meds have made you feel a little bit better. Citalopram made me cry quite a bit in the first couple of weeks. Nausea and retching was a big issue too along with many other side effects. It sounds like you are one of the lucky ones that don't suffer with a wide range of side effects. I take mine in the mornings too as taking it in the evening kept me awake most of the night! Try to get yourself some high strength omega 3 as that has been proven to be beneficial when suffering with depression and anxiety. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Please give update on how your doing

God bless

Lorraine xx

When starting Cit, your moods can be up and down for awhile until it finally settles in. I tapered off in June this summer and came all the way off and I crashed, so I'm starting up again on 10mg and going to 20mg next week. I promise you the outcome is great if you stick with it, but it does take some time.

Hi Lisa,

Sounds gfreat I had instant change in mood when I started too no anxiety and no depression although on the minor side I had a number fo side effects which were tolerable I also didnt have issues sleeping so unless you have a sleeping issue as well that should normalise the only thing you need to understand it will take time however if you are feeling better already that is a very positive start

How are you doing lisa? Hope your doing fine

Hi, better than I felt on Saturday....the first week I felt sort of on a high but calm then tears but now more settled...no more feeling nauseous in the morning so luckily no side effects, thank you x

Feel settled again but not the same super calmness I felt week one. No side effects so fingers crossed x

Hi, I'm better since the weekend.....looking forward to feeling normal again....x

Hi John, I take them between 7-9 am, have no more nauseous since week one.

I think I was on a high as finally got off my chest to my GP what I had been doing regarding food.

I have become obsessed with dieting, every day since teens I think about food and losing weight...After losing 42lb this past year I'm now and Slimming world target but some days I need to see the scales lower...I have not binged in a week so maybe, hopefully this is a turning point.

i have issues with grief, having lost family members when I was young so I am waiting for CBT (NHS!)

onwards and upwards eh!

I do suffer with insomnia anyway but taking them between 7-9 am seems to work best...no more nauseous feeling either this week...x
