Terrible Migraines

Hello Ladies,

Do any of you get these migraines during your cycle? I have had them in the past surrounding my periods but this time it seems to be lingering and my period has ended. I don't know if it is cycle related this time or if it is this new blood pressure medication that my doctor prescribed. I was taking valsartan but the pharmacy called and said that they had to stop issuing it because there were some impurities in the lot that was issued in July by the manufacturer. So my doctor switched me to carvedilol. I started having these migraines about a week after I began the new medication. I was also on my period at the same time so it's hard to tell which is the culprit, my period or the medication. I told my doctor about this but she said headaches are not a common side effect of this medication.

Of you ladies who experience migraines, what solutions have come up with that seem to really be effective?

Hello,  Oh boy,  migraines were a big problem for me when peri hit, up to 2 weeks a month of migraine days.  ESPECIALLY on my cycle. Over the counter stuff stopped working, because if I used it more than a couple days in a row, I ended up with rebound headaches.  I had tried a couple of different meds ( propranolol and amytriptyline) supposed to help, but both made mine worse.  Then the AD mirtazapine, horrible headaches.  Finally, AD Lexapro which is what I’m on now, about 3 months.  i think in the last 3 months I’ve had 1 migraine that lasted 2 days.  I also get sinus pressure headaches that are dictated by the weather.   If your charting your symptoms and noticed a change with that med, it might be the reason.  You could stick it out until your next cycle and see if they subside.

Thanks Lou. The weather has been rainy off and on and I did start having symptoms last week when all this weather was going on. Sometimes it is affected by the weather. Mine started in peri too. I am leaning more towards thinking it is weather because when it is hot during the day I really get it bad but once the sun starts going down it tapers off. I guess it just so happened to be a coincidence that I had just started a new medicine. It's frustrating during peri to always know what is causing your symptoms and how to alleviate them.
