Terrified!

Hello. I am due to have surgery tomorrow. What have people done to combat the terror

Hi, don't think too far ahead and concentrate on getting through one thing at a time. Think how much better you're going to feel, it really is worth it. BW Lisa.

Hi,

I think most of us hippies feel some type of fear before surgery. It's a normal issue for all. Any surgery really. Some patients can ask for something to calm them before surgery my doc gave me some med by iv before surgery.

Ask ask your doc ?

many prayers and blessings sent your way for a great recovery and for pain free life with mobility in your future ASAP. and a better quality of life.

It's quite normal to think like that, but try not too, you'll be OK and on the road to recovery in time to enjoy Christmas. Always think positively.

Hi we all understand and we all felt the same.

What did I do ....I was sick of the pain and sick of no real life.....went for my op but told them I didn't want to know anything about it. Whatever they gave me worked and the day after my op I got up and the pain had gone!!!

Now I have my life back. Staff are marvellous. Fix something in your mind you want to do or to go and focus on that.

Good luck and focus on the day after the op.

Hi there I am having a double hip replacement soon and I am so scared. What type of sedation should I have I really want to be knocked out before I go to surgery as the fear is making me ill.

I agree with Julie. I didn't have time to be terrified because I was so focused on the fact that my life was so rotten with passion, nothing at all could get worse. And it didn't. It was the greatest thing, and the hip has been utterly unbelievable. I have been very lucky - about the only thing I've been lucky with this year!. There been no pain since - four  weeks tomorrow. It's like it never happened and the surgeon turned back the clock! I know not everyone is that lucky, but honestly, you'll look back on this as a great decision.

You'll be fine, and you won't need good luck, but I'll wish it to you anyway!

Dont worry....Take it easy, think about the pain that you will not be in after the operation and that you will be getting your life back...Keep in touch...

Best of luck...  Ian.

Hi, Good Luck to you...I prayed that I would wake up, and it was left in God's hands...I did and I'm living my life almost totally pain free..smile

It's ok to feel worried, I'm sure we all are. I remember walking down to the theatre with a nurse, and I was thinking "what am I doing..." You just have to remember that all that grinding bone on bone pain will go, as if by magic! You don't need to be aware of the op, I had spinal with sedation, and they just woke me up when it was over. Also hip replacements are so routine now, there must be hundreds done every day. Had my hip done 5 months ago today. Popped into my old hospital ward this afternoon with some Christmas biscuits because the staff were all so kind, and bumped into my brilliant surgeon. Happy days! I wish you all the best tomorrow.

Best way to go! 👍

Happy Holidays to you,too!🎅🎅🎅

Hopexxxx😺

Thanks! And to you too!

I recommend spinal with sedation. They wake you as soon as it's over, perfect! (And I was enjoying lunch an hour later..)
