Test Result

Hi, can you help me to understand what is the result of my Igg blood test for Herpes type 2?

Result: 4,50 RU/ml

Negative<16 RU/ml

At the border:16-22 RU/ml

Positive>22 RU/ml

Thank you!

I'm assuming the comma is like a decimal (as per its usage in European prices), so you are presumably negative for HSV2. Did you verify this with your doctor or lab? Looks like the EuroImmun test, not HerpeSelect, incidentally.

Hi, i asked the lab and they told me they are not allowed to declare any positive/negative results. The doctor at emergency didn't help me very much either. I am going to see a doctor today. I received my complete lab results by the way. It looks like I have HSV1 and not sure if I have HSV2 as well...

Herpes simpleks Type 1 IgG Antibody 1,3

Negative; < 0,8

At the border,8-1,1

Pozitive; > 1,1

Herpes simpleks Type 2 IgG Antibody 4,5 RU/mL

Negative; < 16 RU/mL

At the border 16-22 RU/mL

Pozitive; > 22 RU/mL $

So, I was correct about the commas. You are negative for HSV2, but near borderline positive for HSV1. Were you ever swab tested positive for genital herpes? Your HSV1 index value is very low.

No, I've seen a few doctors and they only examined the symptoms, but never did the swab test.

I only asked, because your HSV1 score is really low. I'm not even sure if you have that! I would have expected your score to be higher, as didn't this happen a few months ago now? Pity they never confirmed by swab.

I am very confused. Yesterday, I saw 2 doctors and one of them was the professor of  Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. He confirmed that my result is negative. I also double check my lab results. Ialso got the confirmation from them. I am very confused because I am having slight burning and tingling (sometimes) on my but area and I thought it was from herpes. Maybe it is related to something else, I really don't know...

I think it could well be something else, not herpes. Should you ever have something like an outbreak, insist on a swab.

I will definately insist on a swab. Thanks a lot for your replies, I really appreciate.

The test was negative for type 2, but positive for type 1. Not familiar with the test you used, is it like the ELISA where positive but below a certain # (so-called low positives) are recommended for confirmatory testing by a more accurate test?

Hi, i think the test is called Euroimmun test, which is considered the most reliable herpes test. However, I will have it tested again. I want to make sure about the result.

Certainly looks like EuroImmun judging by the reference range and units used, hence my first comment. I have done that test myself and it is indeed supposed to be good, without the potential cross-reaction issues of HerpeSelect. German test kit, not US.
