Hi I had a RTHR on 22nd May doing well 5 weeks starting to wish I could just jump out of bed and get going on a fine day but still have one crutch walking about 1 km walk to school and back every other day and pottering about house physio said exercises really important even better than walking as targeting the muscle in hop that stabilised the joint so doing those religiously.
QUESTION
I am thinking of going to Texas for about 9 days in August I wil be just hitting the 13weeks mark anybody think the flight would be too much as in sitting for 10 hrs I would. Get up and walk reg and wear teds ands have checked with insurance had to pay£12 extra to insure me RCOS WEBSITE SAYS LONG HAUL OK AFTER 12 weeks anyone else done a 10 hr flight at 13 weeks?
I cant see it being that bad, it will br the customery Three Months that the Physiso folks believe in, and the extra insurance is not much at all, I would say dont worry...
Go for it, the extra insurance cost is minimal which must be a good indication. Possibly try for an extra legroom seat or at least an aisle seat.
have a great time
Hi Caroline, glad to hear that you are doing so well and I'm sure your positive attitude is helping your recovery. I am three months away from THR and asked a similar question regarding long haul flights with a view to going to the States for Christmas. Got lots of conflicting advice on this forum so I asked my GP this week. He said to ask the surgeon. If you can afford Premium Economy or better still Club class that would obviously be much more comfortable for you. Good luck and enjoy Texas whenever you go. Jx
What about short flights. I would love to go to a wedding in Manchester ( flying from Dublin) but will be only 7 'weeks post surgery. Too much to hope for???
I have heard 6 weeks quoted for short haul flights
Hi I am going to Ireland at eight weeks don't expect any probs it's only an hr
Hi Caroline .... if the surgeon will give you the green light and you are physically up to it, why not ... I think it all depends on how you are feeling -
Just in case, take out a cancellation insurance and make sure that in case of cancellation, you are covered for a full refund ... having been in the travel industry for over 40 years, I know how difficult it is to get a refund ... read the fine print, so to speak or buy a fully refundable, changeable ticket ...
big hug and have a wonderful Sunday
Just wondering if you took the trip to Ireland and if so how did you get on
Hi I am in Ireland now for five weeks flew on Monday with three kids no problems with seats and movement was 8 weeks at the time it's only an hours flight. Enjoying being with family who help entertain my three very active children!
Well I'm hoping to go the other direction at 7 weeks. Dublin to Manchester Ryanair. I'm an older hippie so my recovery may be slower than yours. I have my review at 6 weeks so hope I get go ahead from consultant. Enjoy your stay in Ireland. The weather is supposed to get better!!!
Getting a refund of airline tickets from cheaper airline not to mention any names is a no.no. I had booked a flight to spain in September before I knew I need op. Was told I could only claim back taxes and the admin cost could be greater than the amount of tax. Tried to give ticket away but €161 to change name so not worth it. Still we do like our economy flights.
hi attractac ... I think that if you have a cancellation insurance and verified that the reason of cancellation is covered, they have to refund your money ... but you really need to read the fine print - so many things are not covered -
When does your ticket expire ? you can change the date for a fee ...
Never thought of changing date but it was a tour with a Spanish class a doubt if I'd go there alone. I usually don't get insurance till a week before holiday.
Hey and feeling good today. Kept myself up till 12 and slept from 12.30 till 5.30. Sat up then till 7 and slept till 9..
SO happy for you that you were feeling good yesterday !!!
How about last night? Once you are back in "normal" sleep rythm it will be smooth sailing ...
That trip sounds interesting !!!
yeah, well, Cancellation insurance needs to be taken out and paid for at time of booking ! Travel insurance up unitl day of departure -
I enjoy following you here on this forum ...
Slept 12 till 6 am. Waking up with pain similar to arthritis pain. Probably everything knitting and I've cut off cocodamol and only take paracetamol . probably need to take them before going to sleep. Never heard of cancellation insurance but still don't know if it works with the economy one You know the cheap cheap one run by the Irishman. If I mention the name post may be moderated.
