and Canada I believe....it's a day many give thanks for the harvest and the blessings of the preceding year.....but many lose sight of it all.
I've always loved the "turkey and all the fixins" day, and family getting together, but things change and people move on etc....friends are now families in many lives... and friends get together, eat in or eat out and for me I'll be at my daughter's and grandkids for a nice family dinner....
Yesterday was a zoo at the market I shop mostly, people buying many turkeys, lots of "booze" as I buy my supplies of water.....we don't drink alcohol in my little family NOW, been that route....but in moderation it is fine. But it's overdone too.
Major shopping stores are now even open for shoppers to get their great deals.....I could never be bothered with that.....some LOVE the thrill of a bargain....I do, but it's not a thrill.....
Well, everyone, a good day to all wherever you are.....Joy
Speaking of thrills, I had one the other day....when the Rescue Mission picked up a huge bag of quilts, blanket, sheets, jackets and a favorite old sweater....sadly the homeless situation is tragic and should NOT be in our industrialized countries...shame shame shame...
Dear Joy,
I wish you and your family a happy time this Thanksgiving.
George
i love a bargain too. just not the shopping!
I would like to join with George in wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving.
I am so glad you can be with your family and can enjoy quieter times together.

Oh bargains are great and when I was a shopper, nothing like them....today my shopping is the market and for clothes etc online...and I buy only for a "lift" as I'm forever getting rid of years of shopping from my closet.....
Science of Mind philosophy says: get rid of stuff and give to others who need, so you can create a space for something new....
A friend just lost her husband after 50 yrs of marriage and he was a horder and buyer and she is up to her ears in getting rid of his mounds of stuff..... I won't leave that for my daughter....
One friend says she goes shopping in her closet...
Well, thanks for the good wishes and I'm headed out soon for my daughter's house who is only about a mile from me....sure glad she and kids are close by.....
Be well and take care all. J...
Hello Joy,
I like the hoely logic you apply to your shopping. Tomorrow I shall slim down my garage. Hapiily we live in today.
George
Yes, George, get rid of, clean out, give to others in need, I talk this with my grandkids who are in their very early years of acquiring.....words can last forever in minds, once planted....
Had a lovely dinner and catching up with those busy ones in my life....brought home a couple turkey dinners, think I'll call my neighbor and offer her some leftovers tomorrow.....she was alone and I'm sure she will appreciate a day later turkey dinner.....night all. J
Dear Joy,
Yes putting right ideas in the minds of the young is so important. I remember yet a time when I thought everything my parents and dradparents did was the correct way to do things. Gradually I learnt to distiguish between what was cultural and morally neutral and what was morrally right I have changed culturally very little but accept that things are done differently in other countries and in the UK differently by region as well as class.
A turkey dinner for a neighbour sounds a splendid idea. It is always interesting to taste the dishes of other cooks.
Dear Joy and George
What a lovely exchange! Thank you joy so much for the reminder of the power of words and of the legacy we will leave behind us with just a few well chosen phrases and the expression of our values.
thank you so much for thinking of your neighbour who was all alone.
yes i too will join you and george with some serious clearing out and giving away.
so what phrases can we share that are of value? i am rather keen on this one :
'don't put anything onto your body that you wouldn't put into your mouth'
thankfully we have been building the architecture of alternatives in our column joy with toothpaste (yours), deodrant (mine) and various other contributions which will remain for others to hopefully find and perhaps attempt to make themselves.
I was wondering about the principles behind 'thanksgiving day'. I assume it was intended to express gratitude. thinking of others is in a way the epitome of gratitude...it shows a sense of greater awareness ....as distinct from being self satisfied. wouldn't it be nice to find people looking for things who we can directly assist? gum tree is one way. in my day we used to go to 'jumble sales'....we used to have so much fun....car boot sales might be the modern equivalent.
well you've got me thinking about where would be the best way to pass on/share any excess of things xxxxxxxxxxx
I don't see my grandkids Anna and Ryan a lot these days, they are so busy with school and sports and their lives of growing up. My grandgirl is very into organic eating like her mother now and applying at all the California colleges for next year....she talks a lot about nutrition and environmental healing and we were talking a lot about that last night.....she's in a good direction.....they were showing me a lot of youtubes of Michelle Obama talking to the high tech children about health and nutrition and learning.....she's a great influence on the upcoming generations...
Food was so good, but we ate too late for this ole grandma but it's OK, I made it thru the day.....slept thru to 6:30AM and it's gotta be from the turkey that contains L-tryptophan (sp) and I'll bet a lot of other folks slept better last night.....I sleep good due to my sleep combo, which I've posted here, but usually wake at 2-3AM but last night all the way thru to 6:30AM before a bathroom visit. Many do take 5-HTP for sleep and calming effects with contains L-Tryptophan.....
TGD is from our founding fathers and the pilgrims who landed in the US...and the american indians...all thankfulness.,
A bit of trivia....many many overdo TG eating and drinking and I read some time ago that one can consume 18,000 calories with all the food and drink etc..... I keep my portions down and don't drink alcohol anymore.... J
George, I can remember some very wise words from the elders I've met in my life who have gotten me thru some big bumps in my life.....so much wisdom in the older folks..... My 15 yr old grandson thinks he knows it all....good grief, I tell him, you have a long life ahead of you Ryan....take your time, it will all unfold......he's smart but impatient.,....J
Dear Joy, it is a wise young person who learns from the old. All too many I fear mistake the slower pace for irrelevance.
Everyone goes at their speed and sometimes we hear others and sometimes we don't.....I can still hear my mom saying many years ago "save your money, joy".... I said "yeah mom I know".....I started later in life, but I started to save....could I have saved more, yes, but I did my life at my pace....same goes for everyone....better late than never....J
Good for you Joy ...very wise not to overeat. We are designed to eat less as we grow older....so you are a fine example of this graceful process.
I eat heartily when I do eat and appreciate and am very grateful for my food...unfortuneatly the thyroid thing means that I'm not metabolising well and so I do have a bit of a spare tyre that I don't seem to be able to shift. Tho I'm working on it! That is wonderful news to hear about your grandchildren and how they appreciate health and also about Michelle Obama...she is a fine example and a very compassionate woman. Its a shame they may have to leave soon? I do hope you don't get another really reactionary President....the World really can't take it.
By the way George was very appreciative of your comments...he told me...specifically about your sharing and caring. He said what a good influence you are when you speak in that vein. Thought youmight like to know! Also if you 'd like to know who has taken the trouble to award you with a vote then if you look on your profile page you'll see!! George is always very generous in that respect.
I was interested in your sleep combo as had been reviewing those interventions. As far as I remember 5-HTP promotes deeper sleep with more active REM sleep whilst Tryptophan perhaps helps with going off to sleep...would you say? Don't think that's definitive but in comparisonn the two have different qualities so its very interesting that you chose to use both. Thanks so much for sharing this. I had been thinking about trying a support regime...but for now I AM MAKING MORE EFFort to try to improve my circadian rhythms...which do get rather 'out'...prob due to no-one nagging me to go to bed...so i'm too often up or don't go to bed properly..like last night.
Thanks for the comments about TGD ....but maybe the indigenous indians aren't so wild about caucasian arrival? I'm one who is very interested in the simpler way of life and believe that the future lies in the past to some extent if we are to survive we will need to remember our ancestral abililities. I have intervened with actions to try to protect native interests in different parts of the world when I hear these are under threat and I greatly admire those who do even more to protect others our planet and wildlife xxxxxxxxxxxx
irrelevance only for those moments back then....things are turning so much towards introspection and inner reflection ...slow is the new now and 'where its at' !
When I often talk about "how things were" to my daughter and I don't do it often but STUFF to survive on is so expensive TODAY....how poor people can even survive, good grief.
My daughter and the new generation say "it is what it is"....
I have a bridge bridge who is 82 and very very wealthy and talks about lack and complains to the point I want to scream.... she never walks in anyone elses shoes, to me it's sick. She's never enlightened herself.....sick and sad but she's stuck in that MUD....
Dear Marey and dear Joy,
I had not made my meaning clear. The young see the slow and perhaps faltering pace of the old and perceive the slow memories of them. They perceive the difference to their quick mind and actions and think that any advice or instruction must be faulty, tired and irrelevant.
oh I got that!
But some respect the wisdom of their elders. In my circles there is a lot of interest in meditation...and precisely in going slow and its the younger ones who are taking the lead...making vows and helping by their slow steadyness to change the world. They want slow!
oh dear how frustrating!
stillthank goodness you can and do influence your own!!
