The guy I'm dating with has some HIV symptoms. Help!

Hi everybody,

This is my story: on feb 8 (5 weeks and 2 days ago) I had unprotected sex with a guy, I agreed because he seemed very healthful and he told me he always uses condom but that he trusted me because we were from the same community and he knew girls like me are not a risk (although I really can't tell with how many girls he has had sex with without protection, so maybe the "risk" was him and not me).

After that night I didn't see him again because I moved to another city and almost immediately I met someone here in the new city.

The first days we had sex with condom, but on March 3 we had sex without condom for first time and 6 days after that he started to feel a little sore throat, it was so little that he didn't mention anything until it got worse.

On March 15 (1 week and 5 days after the first time of sex without protection) the sore throat became worse and accompanied with swollen glands and headache, no fever and he didn't mention anything about rash. He went to the doctor and started to take antibiotics (because his kids had strep 3 weeks ago, but the doctor told him he didn't have strep but maybe he caught something from his kids), after 1 day and a half of antibiotics he woke up and told me that he had horrible night sweating but now he barely has sore throat and that he was feeling great. So the very bad days of sickness were only 2 days (1 week and 5 days after the first time we did it without condom)

So basically I would like to know:

1. The fact that he felt very good in the morning after the night sweating is a sign that the antibiotic worked and that he actually had a bacteria? (If it was something that he caught from his kids, is it possible to develop it after so long like 3 weeks?)

2. Why if he had a bacteria or other virus different than HIV I didn't get contagied if I've seen him every day? I know any virus or bacteria is contagious but HIV synptoms aren't since the way of transmission is the blood or body fluids

3. Is it possible that the symptoms appear 1 week and 5 days after the unprotected sex?

4. Which are the odds that the HIV symptoms last only 2 days? Since I've been reading that they use to last 1-2 weeks (the sore throat was the only symptom that lasted 1 week but as I mentioned it was very little in the beginning and it became worst only for 2 days and then it disappeared. Swollen glands for 2 days and the third day they started to reduce inflammation)

I'm asking about his case because up to now I haven't had any symptom but I am very worried about the HIV condition of the first guy.

HIV can only be detected by a lab test, not any other symptoms which maybe similar to other viral infections.

With much respect I am compelled to make the following comment:  Based on your sexual activity and occasional moments of being unsafe it's a matter of time that you contract some STD.  I hope that doesn't happen but you are rolling the dice with your health.

You might want to check out a SLAA group (Sex and Love Addicts Annonymous).  You don't have to become a Kool Aid drinking member but just check them out; maybe even online.  Sex and love addiction makes a lot of sense.  I stumbled upon a group years ago after a break-up and learned things about myself by listening to the stories of others.  Most people are not sex addicts but love addicts.  We (I include me) don't know how to establish healthy boundaries and we don't now when to say NO and we put our lives at risk just to hear some sweet words of love.

Been there, done that, but I'm staying away from that substance unless I'm with someone without addictive tendencies and doesnot have an intoxicating personalities that I can not say NO to.

I wish you a lot of wonderful experiences but for the ones that love you, "play it safe".

I am also on the same stage and almost 11 months over. Still having headache, dizziness, stomach issues.. what virus it could be ?

Tested all std's . All are negative.

It could be an infection if you have slight fever, but more like IBS with stomach issues.

I get slight fever only when I am in office a/c room. Otherwise no fever and my blood tlc count is within the limit. Does it sounds like infection?

Okay so basically for the symptoms to show up that soon just indicate it's definitely not hiv

Normally it's 4 weeks after because basically the symptoms are what you call seroconversion and basically that means when your body changes from hiv negative to hiv positive

It lasts a lot longer then 2 days and it would be a lot worse than what you explained, the symptoms are the same as normal flu!

Plus hiv is so major before diagnosis symptoms wise you would definitely have symptoms 100% you wouldn't be fine

Swollen glands swell when there is an infection, think about it he has kids and kids pick up everything

A lot of bugs are going round at the moment

And if antibiotics helped him then that in itself is an indicator that it's not hiv

Antibiotics would not make symptoms go away if it was hiv

Take a test to be sure but I think you're all good

Plus your chance of contracting hiv from this one time exposure (although it does happen) is honestly about 1 in 1000
