hi I am do to have my thr on the 1st may how long is the op and how long off ward please
Total 2 hrs
operation is actually 1 1/2 hrs
Mine was about 2hrs give or take, room to room. About 30 mins for the spinal block, 60 mins for the op itself and another 20 mins or so in recovery.
Hi I walked to theatre at 9 am and was back in ward at 12.45 approx. had a general , no side effects , eating toast at 1.30 .

Hi carol, I was last on list so didn't go down
Till well gone 12 but was back in my room by 3.00 having spent some time in recovery. I don't think the op could have been more than about 70 minutes. I walked to theatre. And climbed onto the anaesthetic table myself. The last I knew was 3 or 4 people bodily positioning me and I think clamping me into position. I then went to sleep as I had requested. The op is the easy bit, it's post op that is harder than I expected. But everyone kept telling me it was much easier than my knee replacement. Not so far it's not!!! However early days for me. Day 1 at home!!! Good luck
Hi the post op does worry me I am 47 bone on bone left lots of pain but get about with a stick , I worry it will go wrong and think a, I doing the right thing. My mum had one at 71 and one at 80 and got on great both times and still going strong at 83
Dont worry Carol, The operation is over before you know it, yes your perhaps uncomfortable and sore , but your pain has gone, recovery is hard work but well worth it. I'm 68 a very active man, I'm 4.5 weeks post op Left thr, a bit more complicated than normal. had to have screws removed from the hip before the thr (motorbike crash when I was a lad) but walking around with one crutch. take the dog out every morning, still a bit stiff sometimes, but much better than pre. op.So it can only get better with time, and it needs too, Ive got lots of DIY to do and an alotment tp sort out. The fact that you are young is good as recovery is quicker I think. Last night I was panicking as my leg was so swollen. This morning marginally better so every day there will be improvement but I keep telling myself it's a marathon not a sprint! Last night I did a night with very little top up pain relief. That's an improvement too as I was popping tramadol like sweeties. Little victories!!!!!
Don't worry Carol. You will be fine. It takes about 2 hours altogether. I had an epidural and light sedation which sent me to sleep anyway. After having tea and toast in the recovery room, was back in the Ward in no time at all. Best wishes.
I believe mine was about an hour or so. Had it done anterio-lateral so not as much cutting. I knew nothing from the time I said good-bye to my family until the time I woke up in recovery. I had an epidural with sedation and was asleep before they even did the epidural which gave me the most anxiety. Haven't needed pain medication for the last week! I was in the hospital for 4 days. Still have a little surgery pain but it's bearable. Good luck to you and don't be too worried! I was scared stiff and I had nothing to worry about at all!
