The pain is so unbearable...

Ever since I had my first period at the age of 14, I have always experienced pain on the 1st day of my period. My flow has never been heavy and the pain was always manageable until now.

Now at the age 20, my period has become a nightmare. Besides from the excruciating, back breaking, fist clenching, body trembling pains; I also get exremely nauseous and my anxiety goes through the roof. I honestly would give anything to make this hell go away. Knowing that every month I'm going to spend a day crying and extremely depressed is hard. I've been to the gynaec

ologist and I'm as healthy as can be. But emotionally, the whole period situation is hard for me. I've considered birth control but it hasn't worked for me due to other issues I have with my skin. I wish I didn't have a uterus sometimes.

I know what you’re going through - mine was decidedly worse. I would have pain and nausea for the week leading up to my period and those first 2 days would often see me throw up or nearly faint from the excruciating pain and nausea. About 3 weeks ago I decided enough was enough and I started on cerazette and so far it’s been a godsend. I don’t know what pill you tried but if you were on the combined pill, maybe it’s time to try the mini pill. It has less hormones in it and in the grand scheme of things, are skin issues really that big of a deal in comparison to having awful periods? It’s given me a few spots but my periods have stopped altogether and I’d rather have not amazing skin then feel like I’m dying for 10 days out of every month.

In the time being, if you really don’t want to go on the pill, naproxen is the only pain relief that works for my period pains. If I start it the night before my period starts they aren’t as bad. Also, ginger or mint tea and a banana will usually curb my nausea while I’m on my period. Get a heat pack and dab some essential oils - you could also look into a Livia machine, and invest in the flex discs which were a godsend for my heavy flow. It’s also worth having an internal scan for endometriosis - I had one and it was pretty straight forward, didn’t hurt or anything. Maybe even get a blood test to check if you’re anaemic. It turned out I was severely anaemic and that explain why I would feel so sick and weak when my period started due to the blood loss. If that is the case, try to take a multi vitamin with iron every day, it’s also going to massively help.

Overall though, the mini pill is the best long term option - especially if, like me, you’re working full time and can’t afford to take 2 days off every month because of your period. Good luck!

The first day of my period is absolute misery. I dread it every month because I know I will have to suffer through it. I have to make plans AROUND the first day of my period because it makes me completely homebound. I experience the worst cramps imaginable and it hurts so much it causes me to vomit excessively. On top of that I get bad back pains. NOTHING works for the pain. I can get cramps for 12 hours straight and I can't do anything but lay in bed crying thinking about why I have to go through it! I went to the gyno and they prescribed birth control but I didn't take it. The worst part of it is that I still live with my dad and he thinks period pain is all made up!!! I am so sorry you have to suffer through it too, I wish we could get some relief
