hi all. Quick question for those in the know. How long do you have to wear the pressure socks for as well as having the blood thinner injections. I’m 2 weeks post op and fairly active now. As per the hospital I am only wearing one on my non operated side but not sure if I even need that. I had my staples out today which saw as a bit of a nice milestone.
Any help / advice gratefully received.
IN all honesty there seems to be no standard set of instructions for us to follow and the advice varies from hospital to hospital and surgeon to surgeon within each hospital.
i had anticoagulant injections, self administered, no pressure stockings
others will tell of oral anticoagulants, elastic stockings, and all combinations of the above
no help to you at all!
As was mentioned, it is not a standardized direction about compression socks nor blood thinner. I was on an injection (at home for more than a week) and then high dosage aspirin for 4 weeks.
I wore my pressure socks to give me relief during the time my leg had some swelling. It wasn’t a requirement by my surgeon.
I took blood thinning pills for two weeks after I came home, had prescription for 14 pills,no refills.
i’m 12 weeks post op today. Feeling very good. At times I forget I had THP. In the beginning weeks I didn’t think this day would every come. Do have a little discomfort or tightness at time in scar area.
Hope you continue to heal and get back to normalcy as it sounds like you are well on your way.
I had mine for 6 weeks, then 4 weeks later had revision on my messed up THR, and had them for another 6 weeks.
I had to take anti coagulants for 35 days. I had one of the new novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) rivaroxaban.
Should have kept the stockings on for six weeks but they were so painful I took them off at 3 weeks. Anti coagulant injections 28 days
In the UK /England the NICE guidance has recently changed if you have no conditions or other risk factors that could predispose you to clotting then it is no TEDs and injections for 10 days followed by oral aspirin for I think 30 days or injections for 30 days with no TEDs but individual surgeons may want a different regime but generally it seems the stockings have been dropped (?cost?) if you are not bed bound . Keeping moving well and being well hydrated also helps prevent DVT.
Really??? My op was 6th March the stockings and injections caused me so much misery! The stockings cut into my legs and caused swelling to fold over the tops. My feet went numb and my big toes hurt.
The injections caused night sweats to the point of being drenched each night as well as adding to night time visits to the loo as my body tried to relieve my body of it. Pre op I only took the occasional paracetamol!
Attempts to lose both were greeted with warnings about DVT so I persevered . If only I had known 😢
Hi I had my first hip end of Jan and used stockings then plus injections so was quite surprised when this time I wad told stockings not needed I did opt to keep injections going for 30 days though mind you after I was home for 2 days I got 3 bad insect bites on my right leg they looked as if they could have developed into cellulitis which could have been disastrous for the new prosthesis so have been on strong antibiotics for 10 days ironically if I had had stockings on the little pests probably wouldn't have bitten me !
hi,i was told six weeks to my fury!managed 5 weeks and 3 days x
