So I found out the results of the TSH test, and I got a number of 4.03..I can't help but feel that number is a little higher than it should be. I just had a basic Thyroid Function Test, not a Full Panel Thyroid Test. It sucks when instinctively you have a hunch that your Thyroid isn't working properly, but no one around you believes you. When they tell you,the TSH levels weren't bad so you don't need to get the Full Panel Thyroid test..that I will sound like a hypochondriac if I go to a different doctor and ask for a second opinion regarding my thyroid function..and how I am just faking it.I nearly cried because I KNOW deep in my gut that my thyroid isn't working as well as it should. Am I wrong for persisting that I need to have further testing done to check my thyroid function?I know that some thyroid problems don't show up on a regular TSH test..
Hi hun no you are not wrong do you have a endocrinologist?
Yes, Queen, what you're experiencing is typical. This is why hypothyroid disease often goes undiagnosed for decades. The ranges generally are too broad for TSH to be helpful other than as an indicator. Any TSH above 2 is concerning and indicates hypothyroidism. But you really have to follow up with a fully thyroid panel to know. Unfortunately, the same also goes for the rest of the thyroid panel. They may show on the low end of normal, but this can be very problematic because the tests done are only a small portion of the whole picture. If you get a full panel and still don't really get the results you feel you need, you'll have to follow through with an endocrinologist.
To add to it all, thyroid patients suffer from brain fog, making it extremely difficult to track their own symptoms.
