Well, today is my first day of temp disability from work. Took my meds this morning. Xanex is kicking in and the shakes are subsiding. Breathing normal again. Tried relaxation sounds to sleep last night. Just agrivated me more. I feel better writing on this group. It's a good focal point to keep my mind from eating itself. I wonder what we all may have in common or if there is a common trigger. Did we all have trauma in our childhoods? Did our parents also experience these sysmptoms and try to hide it or mask it with alcohol and street drugs? Do we have work in common where we have boring repetitious jobs at a desk without any sense of accomplishment? What are these common triggers? Have there been studies? How many of us are there out there? I wonder.
If you're talking about Anxiety or even depression. I blame it on my past. Just me thought I wouldnt say everyone we are all different. When I was born I remember they had to get me out of my mom's stomach right away. Doctor said, "I was anxious to get out." I was panicking and my heart was racing so fast. Doctor also said, "by the way I was they could tell I was a anxious baby and also mentioned to my mom to take me to a cardiologist that I probably had a heart problem. Which I do. I don't know if this has to do with anything. My mom didnt know she was pregnant and was on diet pills. She had gotten the shots to not get pregnant but they didnt work lol I'm here. This or my past. PTSD. My mother has the same problem. My dad has anger issues. I wouldn't blame my parents I do sometimes but I think it's learned behavior for me. Living in fear can also cause kids to be submissive and fearful of others and they grow up to be adults who still live in fear like little children. Not trusting anyone, thinking everyone has bad intentions towards them. I'm talking about me. No pun intended people. Masking the symptoms with drugs is never the solution. I've been desperate but I wouldn't want to add more problems to my already existing problems. It's the wrong direction to go. I do believe seeking therapy. No matter how many times. Until you find the right one just know you matter and you deserve too get better. So take the opportunity and go to therapy it's not fast. It takes time but you will feel better with time. With a good helpful therapist anything is possible. Try meditation, exercise, vitamin B, natural herbal pills, remedies etc. Good things that can help. I know it won't all go away but the anxiety will be more manageable. Good Luck everyone👍
Think my father had it and masked it with alcohol. I too had rough childhood. Step mom beat me dad was alcoholic and I was institutionalized. But I put all that behind me and have a great life now. Unfortunately, the beast found me again. But I will not let it beat me. I will get through this. I will keep my chin up. Stay positive. Keep writing on this board. Help others. It will help you at same time. See therapist and unload the stress. Just let it go. We are supermen
Lol I'm a girl. My dad was violent and would beat, choke, kick my mom. There was no alcohol involved he has always had a short temper and volatile outbursts. Anyways I'm glad you're better now. 👍Thanks.💖We are strong💪
I'm sorry for you've been through. I didn't get a beating but my dad would whip me with the belt. He ran over my mom with his truck and I was 9 and in front of her. My mom's bf got me out of the way. Anyways like you said all these things and other things we should let it go.
Hi David, all of us go through anxiety, the only difference is how we deal with it. Some have the strength and some don't. Drugs and alcohol are used by cowards. Read a paragraph of bible daily (many people do it before starting the day). It will give you strength. Good luck!
Well versed in the Bible and I know I am not dying. I think the problem lies somewhere in my lack of activity or staring at a computer screen all day. I used to work with my hands doing construction and never had these problems. But then I took a desk job and I am 30 years into my job and no place to go. The old days you didn't really hear about these problems. But they are real and need to be brought out in the open so people take them serious. I am sure the Bible helps you, but reality is during my panic attacks, I can't focus on reading or anything. Just shake until I take a pill and calm down.
what*
my bad phone messes words up.
David. I have had no traumas in my childhood. Always been an anxious child fit whatever reason. Turned into an anxious adult. No apparent reason for my anxieties. Think everyone deals with thing differently. The only thing i can think of is my gran was agrophobic and whether i took my personality from her. No alcoholics, drug addicts, beatings, deaths etc in my childhood. Don't no the answer
Moira, very happy to hear from you. Difficult to write as I am in middle of panic attack. The slightest thing sets me off. Today the Sedgwick insurance that I was counting on to pay my bills while I am out on short term disability called me to tell me that aside from my regular doctor and therapist they will require me to go to a psychiatrist as well or they may deny me pay. So this set me off. Another worry. I would love to know what the common trigger for all of us is. I am too old and have too much to look forward to, to let this condition ruin my life. Therapy tomorrow and hopefully a better day. Thank you for your reply. And I hope things get better. Don't give up. I am with you
What age r u. I think it's a difficult thing to try to find out common triggers for anxiety. I've had it since around 18 I'm now 46. To the outside (and i should feel the same) i have a great life. Married 25 years, got 3 relatively well behaved kids. A good job a nice house. So why the hell should i feel like this? There's no apparent reason. Think as lady gaga said "born this way"
Also David I'm in scotland so don't need health insurance. So that's another thing i don't have to worry about. So why?
So why what? I would love to be in your country but unfortunately here in USA, our insurance companies are greedy and make you pay in all your life but then when you need to make a claim to get some money back they give you a hard time. Especially if you need a break from work with a mental health issue and still need to support your family. Should not ever be this hard when you need help. Not to mention the outrageous fees psychiatrists get to regulate your meds. They don't even hear your problems, you need to go to a separate therapist for that and then they charge you as well. It's a big scam. Of coarse they are sensitive to our plight, they are making millions, and they can afford to let you wait a month or so to get in even when you are a basket case... "nope, sorry, go to ER" they tell you. That's why I never go to the doctor and I hate it when this disorder hits me. It sucks.
What i mean is why do i worry. I'm not saying we get free health care. It's taken from ur salary every month. So if u go to docs or A & e you are covered and so are ur family. I don't have to worry about health care but why do u still worry about health. Do u have to pay if u go to ER
I meant why do i still worry
Another thing if i go to the docs tomorrow and i am given a prescription for 5 items i dont have to pay a thing for these. Which if u can afford to pay u should even if it is a minimum payment. Also we have a thing called minor ailments. If i do to the chemist with a sore throat ill get paracetemol at no cost. I don't think its fair. The only problem which occurs time and time again is the people who don't work and we r paying for their health care
I am in my late 40s. I have 3 wonderful children. 2 grown and out of house and one still at home. I have a wonderful and supportive fiancée. I am Irish/ Scottish mutt. McPartland my last name. Just threw that in there, I love Scotland and Ireland I consider them my homelands. Stupid I know. But proud. Anyway, my first bought was 8 years ago and much worse than the attacks I get today in this latest occurrence. I had several things going on and they didn't know what it was. So they checked me out inside and out and came to the conclusion it was anxiety and depression causing the attacks. I went on a slew of medications as they did not know what would work for me. Some meds (Wellbutrin) made tings worse, others made me tired and low energy (Effexor, Celexa), I the end I ended up on lexapro. The hard part this time is that lexapro takes 4 to 6 weeks to start working so I need the xanex to cover the transition. It has affect on my sex life as well. I have no problems getting aroused just climaxing. And my heart feels like it's pounding out of my chest. So there's is that. But I am managing. No clue about trigger at this time. Will get more into it with therapist tomorrow. 45 minutes is not nearly enough to tell the therapist everything she needs to know. But it's a start.
Yes, I understand. It work the same way here. I get a portion of my salary taken out for health insurance which includes short term disability. Seems like anytime the insurance company has to pay the patient there is always an extra hoop to jump through for the patient to receive funds. They have no problem paying the doctors though. Point being, seems like it's a rigged system here. People getting rich on others misery. Not saying doctors don't deserve the money they get, but the insurance companies could be nicer to the patients who need the help. I have been at my job 30 years, used my disability benefit one other time, that's it. Yet I pay faithfully each week. Love to tell them "yes, I am going to pay you, but I need you to see a psychiatrist first along with a therapist and primary care doctor, first" see how they like it.
I've got kids 18, 15 & 11. Scotland is lovely if u could get rid of the horrible weather. Sitting just now in 11 degrees. I'm on 160 slow release propanalol and 40 citalopram. I no the propanalol is high but I've got high BP too. Talking about triggers, the only thing i can think of was when i was17 i went to a football match on new years day with my hubby (boyfriend at the time). I didn't feel to well and threw up outside the pub and told to leave. I was so embarrassed. I think my anxiety started from that one incident because i wasn't drunk just not well
We have to pay for every prescription here. Generic drugs substantially less expensive than brand name drugs. But no freebies. Not unless you are unemployed and getting state aid that is. The working class gets screwed all the way around here. Locked in and seems like if you get sick, minor or not, you are on your own. Just better pray you have a job with paid sick days. Most don't.
