Hi all.
I went to my doctors regarding my weight... I was offered a gastric band on the NHS when I went to my doctor he referred me to Hull hospital where I met with a consultant but I ended up backing out as it is a last resort and a huge step to take... I decided one last time to go it alone... 5 years later nothing has changed despite trying every diet and exercise regime including personal trainers... So I read up all about it did lots of research and with my bmi at 50 I've decided to go for the band as I now feel ready... I went to my gp last week she said right away that it's probably the best option and said it is a lot easier to get the band on the NHS since I last went for it.... So she said she will refer me... So here I sat waiting for that appointment for the hospital when I opened the NHS letter today it was a referral to to an adult weight management programme called shape my weight... So I'm really confused??? Does anyone know why??
Yes it is really hard to get a band on the nhs i have tried for years adn i had a bmw of 50 and I have had to just pay for mine, you will need to attend classess and tick all the boxes before they let you have a band x
Same as Vicki!
Georgina, I too was give hope by my GP that I could have a band on the nhs and made it sound simple.
I then received a letter from 'why weight' (same as your letter I assume but it's different names per region!) I then attend 3 interviews, one with dietician, phycologist and exercise specialist! I was then told I would have to complete a program and attend classes twice a week for the next 2 years and that even at the end of the program I mah not be eligible for a nhs gastric band!! It was too much of a commitment as these classes were over an hour away and I couldnt take time off work so often for so long! When I say too much of a commitment, I've tried weight loss for so long and had my heart set on a band and to think I had to wait so long! So I ended up going privately for my band last October and really wish I'd done it sooner!! I've only lost just over 4 stone but feel so much better already!
X
Hi Georgina , I had to do a year at weight management course before I had a referral to Luton hospital for bariatric surgery where you have an appointment with a physiologist a nuse & the dietitian , then I had to go on the milk diet for 4weeks. I thought I had reached the stage where I could'nt loose any more weight, but only having 4pints of milk a day -1cup clear soup-1sugarfree jelly for 28days I did loose 13lb. My next appointment is on Monday. It isn't an easy road but it is doable.x
