The Stairs

Good Monday morning hippie friends. Well it's week #8 of hip replacement recovery and stepping up the challenges. Have been working on stair climbing like a normal person, no more baby stepping up stairs. Have to say it's grueling but this is another goal for myself after years of not being able to walk stairs without baby stepping them. It's coming along, still a bit hard but it's happening. .

hi susan

love the pic!!!

well done on the stairs, i find myself baby stepping first thing in the morning and last thing at night when i am either stiff or tired but do it the `normal` way all other times.

onwards and upwards !

Hi and morning greetings. Know how you feel about the stairs, certainly worked the hip and thighs, but rewarded myself after each session with chocs and jam doughnuts.....strange how had so many sessions. Prob now is before long exercise bike Tour de France style to work off my extra padding. Can't win eh.  Keep well and a well done hug to you.

Hi Susan , I too have been trying to master the stairs , yes its hard going as I have no good leg to go with so it's one crutcth and as you say , baby steps . Keep it up Susan , you'll be running up them before long , Ruth

It will happen even quicker now you have started, one day you will go up the stairs without thinking about it.  All th best.

Hi Susan

I think I was about 6-7 weeks when I asked for advice about going up and down stairs "normally". As advised by fellow Hippies, I tried a few steps each day and have to be honest it was a bit sore to begin with but I gradually built up the number of steps, leading with my operated leg, each day and also did a few "steps" as part of my exercise routine. Im now nearly 14 weeks and dont even think about it, no pain so you will get there soon, just do things gradually and any initial soreness will soon go.

best of luck for continued recovery

Hi Susan

Just found forum and good to hear how well you are doing. I had a total hip revision 12 weeks ago and the going seems very slow. At my 6 week review I came away confused at how little info and advice I was given about how to proceed and what to expect. I have been tentatively searching internet.

I 'babystep stairs naturally still but force myself to use one leg after the other going up or down. I am a very impatient patient but it is so good to read how you and others are getting on......
