The truth comes out

Hello fellow hippies

I phoned a mate last night. His wife is a nurse. She told me off record that I could be waiting till next April before I get my hip operation. The NHS has already run out of money only 6 months into the new tax year. This is because they are having to get agency nurses in at very inflated prices and also have to higher st johns ambulances to covver NHS contracts to get paitents to and from hospital appointments. This costs the NHS

£8000 per day. So this is thew reason my surgeon got me in quick this April just gone. My mates wife said don't hold your breath in getting in before next April.

I hope for your sake that's not the case. I dont know what your system is like as im in Australia. Im public and what i did was asked my doc for a referral to see a surgeon....i saw the surgeon privately and went on their public list. Waited 5 months all up. I was on the total publuc system and had already waited a year and still not seen a surgeon . Hope this helps

Oh dear that's not great for future hippies.

I like sassy (but here in uk ) saw surgeon privately initially (cost 200) he agreed I needed TRHR (in June this year) he told me to get gp to refer me to him at private hospital but as nhs patient, which I did . I went in had op done 18th August. Hospital was lovely like hotel and I got to go in hydrotherapy pool ! May be worth checking that out .

I work for nhs and budgets are tight my department (dental ) are so short staffed at one point we had approx 800 patients awaiting appointments for routine care ! However things vary from trust to trust .

Have good day

Denise

Hi Hailea

I'm also in the UK. I was referred to the Consultant in April by the physio that was treating my hip. I saw Consultant in July and was told there was a 26 week wait from referral. My op is now booked for next Friday, which is about 30 weeks, which seems to be about average for where I live in Mid Wales/Shropshire Border.

Wishing you all the best.

Steph

hi

I was told in April this year I would have to wait at least 6 months for first hip but 3 months to see consultant ie 9 months total . I went private to consultant to speed up but then needed both hips doing so was lucky we had insurance and got them both done privately. I would still be waiting otherwise.

Hi stephi

It has been said it is a 36 week wait just for first consultaion in South Wales now.

I have a 14 month wait for first consultaion for the cateracts in my eyes too.

Im australia... get your gp to write a referral and see a ortho surgeon as a private patient. ...... then find if they have a public list. Thats what i did. I called an ortho and asked if i could see them privately and go on their public list. I waited 8 weeks for a appointment and 5 mnth for surgery. Good luck.....oh meanwhile with the public system i haven't even had an appointment yet

I am in the UK. I saw my consultant in the end of  March 2015, he recommended a hip replacement and I had the op on June 1st. I had to wait less than three months!

My friend who lives in Surrey had her op in less than three months as well.

Each County seems to have different waiting times...

I am inthe Uk, I saw Cosultant in April 2015 and had my op on 21st May less than 4 weeks later.  Albeit I did take a cancellation, but if I hadn't the op would still have been with 12 weeks.

good lord, that is awful --

you are not a normal case, hailea - not to be offensive ... I mean you have serious issues - OA is bad enough and so painful, but nothing has collapsed (yet)or is sticking out ...

I am sure you did and are doing everything possible -

hopefully your GP and other 1/2 can keep on badgering the surgeon/system and get you in as soon as possible ....

I wish I had a magic wand

Just had a phone call from my surgeons secretary. I am in for pre assessment next week and my operation will happen within the next two weeks after that.

so pleased to hear you will be having operation soon. good luck. maggiex

Thank you Maggie. I think the A & E Doc sent a rather stern e mail. I am just hoping it will happen and not another fob off.

🍻CHEERS! !!!

So happy for you. ...

sending you positive energy and light and love

Yikes!

Great news. Good luck.

Steph

Thank you Renee 🍺🍻. I hope I will at last be able to have a good Christmas. It will be my first one in 5 years without OA pain 😊

Thank you Steph 👍

I saw my consultant at the beginning of September and he said about 16 weeks for the op. In fact if it all goes to plan it will be done in under 9 weeks, so sooner than I anticipated. UK

Fantastic news Hailea!
