I had my THR in January and would like to share some of the highs and lows that I have experienced. The early weeks were not easy. Sleeping was difficult, the support stockings were horrible, the pain was worse than I had imagined and I was so dependent on my husband. By 6 weeks I could walk without a crutch, but often experienced discomfort in my groin, and often in the lower part of my leg. I found sitting very uncomfortable, but being able to lie on my side in bed really helped my recovery. I made sure that I did my exercises 3 times a day and tried to walk every day. It is now 12 weeks since my operation and I can say that I feel normal again. The discomfort when walking has gone, I can get my socks on, I walked for nearly an hour yesterday and I am sleeping better. The first weeks are hard, but I can say now that it is worth all the difficulties. I hope this post will help others who can't see light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks Maura
Im 2.5 weeks post op, and was hoping to be a bit more mobile. I'm always tired, abd seems like if I do my physio and walk, then it's too much in one day and the next say is just hideous. So right now I'm doing one or the other, or if it's a short walk, I'll do half the physio.
Glad to hear that you are well now and pain free. I think we all look forward to that point....
Thank you for sharing
Caron
Hi Maura,
So happy to hear that you are doing well and have overcome the obsticles that were thrown at you. I had my FHR 8 months ago. Thankfully my experience was much different from yours. My surgeon is a firm believer of helping his patients with pain meds to get through the first several weeks. I don't remember being in pain at all, just slight discomfort at times.
Wishing you the best as you continue to recover!
Right maura you did good the first week was also difficult for me but now life is normal I can do any thing with some precuations that is wonderful pain free life 💃💃
Hi it can take up to a year to get back to normal.please remember that you have had a major operation. Take a day at a time.Regards Amanda
So good to hear your update, esp of those early weeks. Thanks again. Best wishes.
Good to hear you're gradually improving Maura. Like Kimberley, I'm a bit over 8 months and doing fine. I found the nights very uncomfortable, much better once you can sleep in different positions!
Again I'm reiterating what Kimberley said, all you hippies in the early stages of recovery, take your hospital prescribed pain meds! Then you'll feel more comfortable walking and doing your exercises.
I wish you all the best Maura.
hi caron,
I know it can be discouraging, darling, but just know that this is normal - Healing takes a lot of energy and it looks that you are doing great - You listen to your body and that is the best thing you can do - No need to push her, okay - rest, take naps and be very gentle with Caron ..
angel blessings
hi maura,

I am sure your encouraging words will make a lot of nehippies happy ..
it is roller coaster journey -

Hi Caron, it is very early days for you. I remember at 2 weeks I was just walking from one room to another for 5 minutes and I found that exhausting. I used to dread doing the exercise where you lift your leg from a standing position because it hurt so much. Things will get easier I promise. Best wishes, Maura
Hi Amanda, I wish someone had told me that in the early days after my op. I have a friend who told me I would be recovered after 6 weeks and when I got to this milestone I was upset and worried that I was nowhere near 'recovered'. I had to allow myself to be pleased with the small steps in my progress and this really helped me to mentally accept that I would get better. Thanks for your advice. Best wishes, Maura
Hi Renee, this forum really helped me in the early weeks of my recovery.
I don't think that people realise just how hard the whole process can be and knowing that others had struggled but were now back to normal really encouraged me to be positive. It is great that we can share our experiences with others. Thank you for your big warm hug.
Hi Maura. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It's great to know that it will eventually all be worth it. My RHR will be on the 28 th if April I'm dreading not being able to sleep on my right side as that is how I always sleep. Did you have an epidural or general anaesthetic. I'm booked for the epidural. I've been informed by people who have had this type of procedure don't remember a thing. As they also had a sedation of some kind as well. I wish you happiness and many years of pain free comfort.
😊 Vicki
