Thickening of the womb .

Hi I'm a bit confused about what is normal and what s not , I'm 57 57 should.   the lining  of my womb be thin now ????

Anne,

I can only assume that at 57, you have been in menopause for several years.  Correct?  And yes, this is not only normal it is also healthy that your uterine lining is thin.  It is our estradiol that stimulates the lining of the uterus to grow, and our progesterone that fluffs it up and allow it to shed.  After we enter menoapuse, there is not enough estradiol to grow the lining in our uterus.  Therefore, the lining does shrink in size.

There are some woman who after one year without a period, and therefore considered menopausal, will bleed occassionally.  The associated scare is uterine cancer.  Usually it turns out to be nothing, but uterine biopsies are done to make sure.  These woman who experience off the wall bleeding, if tested, have "relatively" higher levels of estradiol in their system.  Our ovaries, even after menopause, do produce some estrogen. But as the years move along, estradiol production does decrease, until it is impossible to even measure it in blood work.

So I wouldn't worry about a thin lining.  In fact, just the opposite.  Your body is doing what is normal.

Hi, Anne.  In my experience, what they call the uterine stripe should be 4mm or less.  If wider, they'll want to do a biopsy.  When I had my ultrasound, my uterine lining was at 8.  When they measured during the pathology after my hysterectomy it had increased to 12 in just a couple of months.  Hope this helps.

If there is anything I am sure about, especially after reading all these different stories, it is that there are about 1000 different normals.

Thank you for the information , still worry that all is ok when they have a look .

Thank up thank for the info , stil you worry when they want too look 😦

Hi yes very true 😡

You're welcome.  And, of course you worry.  But the best thing to do is to get it assessed and taken care of whatever it is.  You can still feel and accept your feelings and do what needs to be done to keep yourself healthy!  Best of luck! xxx Let us know how you do!
