Don't know if its OK to mention these as they are not "mainstream medicine" but they certainly helped in my recovery and could help others? I took homeopathic tablets - arnica 30 and symphytum to help with bruising and bone healing respectively. Also a tonic called floravital which a yeast free herb-based iron and vitamin tonic, because although you may not be anaemic, your ferritin levels will probably be low after major surgery and this helps boost your natural resources. I also used arnica cream regularly on the whole leg and I found acupuncture treatment helped with the sharp nerve pain and also swelling to some extent, also took pre and pro-biotic powders for a month after the op to help restore gut health after the hefty dose of antibiotics given during the operation which knock out "healthy" bacteria as well as unhealthy, and had the little yoghourt drinks each day for a while. Don't know if this might help some people.
Sound like good ideas! I may still try a couple of them at thirteen weeks. . still suffer a bit from diarrhoea which the probiotics might be good for!
I know what you mean about not mainstream medicine...I had my left knee done 7 years ago. I go to Holland twice a year as I make and sell dolls house miniature dolls so we make it a little holiday each time. 4 year before my op, I was walking behind my stand and one of my customers asked is she could help...she was a Reiki Master... open minded I said yes. She waited until the fair had nearly ended, brought a bottle of water with her, took her watch, rings off , washed her hands and then put her hands on my knee and lower leg for about 4/5 mins. She then washerd her hands again, put her watch and rings back on and said that should do for a while. It did, no pain, walking normally, 6 months later she did this again for me, would not let me pay but I offered goods in exchange which she took.
this went on for 3 years until the last time when she came and I told her I was having an op as soon as we got back home, she held her hands up saying thank you for telling me. I haven't seen her since as she moved jobs and home. The thing was as she was treating me she also treated my hubby after he had stents for Heart problems.A year later when she found out he had had pneumonia the month before our visit to Holland she would not touch him, said no way.... But I do believe in this type of help.
I think any help would be welcome after this operation! what an interesting encounter!
