Things to do or not to do during sex.

I'm so new about this virus. I was diagnosed three months ago for type 2. My current partner has negative test results and well I don't know what is right to do during sex. I'm a female. Does my boyfriend would get herpes if he fingers me. Can I still get oral sex. I know it's unlikely but is it too risky. Any information is very helpful.

Take daily suppressive therapy at the higher dosage (500 mg valacyclovir twice daily) at least five days before starting sex and it should be okay. Avoid sex if you notice any breakthrough symptoms. Still use condoms for sex. Oral and fingering should be fine, especially with no broken skin.

I mean broken skin on your partner. The meds need to be kept up on a daily basis, even on days that you don't have sex, since they need to be in your system for at least five days before they have the desired effect. Use lube during sex to reduce friction, which can be a trigger for some people, but possibly less so if you are on the meds.

I will ask my doctor for suppressive therapy, I do need a prescription for that medication right?

Depends where you are, but probably.

Water based lubricant ? And do you know if the medication has any side effects or long term effects ?

Yes, water-based like KY, otherwise condoms will be compromised. The meds can be tolerated by most people for years. Just keep up your water/fluid intake whilst on them (noted in the patient leaflet).

yes, for aciclovir

hope it will work, I was ok 3 months and after that symptoms returned
