Think I'm getting Gallbladder issues

Hey all. Going to call the docs on Monday and try get appointment.

last two or three weeks I’ve been getting a pressure/gripping sensation over my gallbladder area, over the last week getting the odd pain in it and on Wednesday night while lying very uncomfortably got a sudden pain like what I expect a taser to the stomach would feel like, only for a second but it was an 11/10.

oddly enough, 2 or 3 years ago i had an ultrasound on my stomach to check my liver due to going onto cholesterol and blood pressure pills. at the time the lady performing it, quizzed me numerous times if I had eaten before going for it (I had nothing since 8pm the night before not even a sip of water, as instructed)

she said my gallbladder looked strange and sshe asked a number of times as though she never believed me, and then asked a number of times if I ever got pains or discomfort over this area (which I never did)

the booked us in for a few weeks later to double check and apparently it was OK at this time.

I’m curios as to what may have been seen on ultrasound to question if I’d eaten beforehand and if it would be sore?

I’m only 35, admittedly a few stone overweight, my dad had his gallbkadder out last year, and my mum hers in her 50s after suffering gallbkadder attacks since her 20s.

hi. it could have been gas bubbles blocking her view, so she was having a hard time getting her measurements and pictures. The radiologist that reads the ultrasound should have been able to tell if there was anything abnormal on the pictures she got. Your symptoms do sound like it could be gb related. best of luck. had mine out last year

hi Jim,

It does sound like the symptoms you are experiencing could be gallbladder attacks. I used to describe the pain of an attack like a gripping pain - felt like someone had tied a rope around my upper abdomen and was pulling it tighter and tighter. Also, although not in my case, gallbladder issues can run in families.

Insist that your doctor refers you for an ultrasound as this is the best way to detect stones. Sometimes people have gallbladder issues without stones as a result of a low functioning gallbladder and this is picked up by HIDA scan.

In the meantime, take buscopan at the onset of an attack, eat a very low fat diet and keep a food diary to help identify what foods trigger attacks for you.

I’ve been through this and had my gallbladder removed 7 months ago The operation was a complete success and I have my life back.

Best of luck!

thanks folks, its been like a low grade attack in that the pain is sudden very painful stabs but fortunately dont last long (yet) but theres a near constant pressure/gripping feeling.

had a good bit of pain this evening brought on after eating, so calling docs tomorrow to get appointment.

Jim,

Pleased to hear you are getting it checked out, sometimes there are doctors who try to put it down to something else, commonly indigestion, so be sure to insist upon full investigations including an ultra sound scan.

When I got the attacks there was no pattern to them - some occurred in the middle of the night and others in the middle of the day. Likewise with the duration of the attacks - longest 5 hours, shortest 15 minutes.

Best of luck and do let us know how you get on.
